74Is Lucifer the Devil?
Let me start out by saying I am a born-again believer. I was raised in the traditional Christian church. Whether it is because of my own "dump all evil in the same box" mentality or whether this subject was never really taught and covered in the church, I have believed that Lucifer, because he was cast out of heaven, was the Devil named Satan.
I spent an entire day reading every verse about Lucifer and also those regarding the Dragon, the Serpent, the Devil, Satan, and the god of this world. Lucifer's name is only found once in five of thirteen versions of the Bible and he is called "star of the morning, son of the dawn" in eight other versions. The results of my study were startling in that it appears most evident that Lucifer is the "angel of light", the spirit of antichrist who mimics the real "bright and morning star" (Jesus)!
Who or What is the Devil?
Before we get to the startling scriptures, let’s first talk about who the Devil is. We clearly see him identified in Revelation 12:7-9 states, “And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. And the dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”
Next, I did a study on the word “dragon”. We see in Revelation 13:1 the angel of the Lord stood on the sand of the seashore. And John “saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names.” First of all, this isn't a literal "sea". In Chapter 17:15 this sea is described as the peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
We see the fate of the antichrist and false prophet in Revelation 19:20 into the Lake of Fire. However, we also see the fate of the dragon (aka Satan) being bound for a thousand years at the same time. Ultimately, the dragon’s final destination is shown to be the Lake of Fire also, where the antichrist and false prophet are in Revelation 20:10...a thousand years later.
Let’s now go to Isaiah 27:1, which states, “In that day, the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, With His fierce and great and mighty sword, Even Leviathan the twisted serpent; And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.” We know the beast of the sea has seven heads. Psalm 74:14 states, “Thou didst crush the heads of Leviathan”. For a pretty graphic description of Leviathan, read Job 41! The study of Leviathan was fascinating!
Speaking of "crushing heads", what was the curse on the "Serpent" in Genesis 3:15? "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

Who is Lucifer?
Rather than focus on who the Devil is, let’s now turn to Lucifer. First, we must look at the definition of the name Lucifer. It is the Hebrew word heylel (hay-lale’); the morning star:-lucifer. The only scripture that names Lucifer is Isaiah 14:12: “How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the dawn!” The NAS Bible states, “How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn!” We know that “star” in the Bible sometimes means “angel”. So we can confidently say that Lucifer is an angel. On the other hand, we also know Jesus is called "bright and morning star", but He is God (see hub, "Who Do You Say That I AM?": http://hubpages.com/hub/Who-Do-You-Say-that-I-AM).
Because it appears Lucifer might actually be the spirit of antichrist, I started studying! 2 Th 2:7 states that “the mystery of lawlessness is already at work”, and seems to align with 1 John 4:3 which states “this is the spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.” Here we see "lawlessness" and "antichrist" aligned.
Well, if we read from the beginning of Isaiah 14, we will see that the words and characteristics spoken to Lucifer, the “star of the morning, son of the dawn”, are indeed being spoken to THE KING OF BABYLON (verse 3). Did you know that the Great Harlot that rides the Dragon beast is representative of the City of Babylon?
What are the characteristics spoken of about the King of Babylon in Isaiah 14?
Vs. 6 states he subdued the nations in anger with unrestrained persecution.
Vs. 13 states he will raise his throne above the stars (angels) of God.
Vs. 14 states he will make himself like the Most High.
Now, let’s look at some of the consistent characteristics of the antichrist in three other books of the Bible:
Daniel Chapter 11
Vs. 3 states a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great authority and do as he pleases (lawlessness).
Vs. 16 states he has destruction in his hand.
Vs. 33 states he will persecute the saints; they will fall by the sword and by flame, by captivity and by plunder.
Vs. 36 states he will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods.
2 Thessalonians 2
Vs. 3 states that he is a man of lawlessness, the son of destruction.
Vs. 4 states he opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
Revelation 13
Vs. 2 states the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority.
Vs. 5-6 state he has a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies against God, His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
Vs. 7 states he will make war with the saints and overcome them.
Vs. 12 states the false prophet will make the earth and those who dwell in it worship him.
Abaddon/Apollyon = 2nd Beast (Antichrist)
Now that we’ve seen these passages in Isaiah, Daniel, 2 Thessalonians and Revelation are talking about the same person (the antichrist), let’s look at just three more characteristics listed in these passages that would lead to the possible conclusion that the angel of the abyss [bottomless pit] of Hades, Abaddon (Hebrew)/Apollyon (Greek) is the second beast, the antichrist as foretold. Keep in mind that Lucifer is a Latin name and angels are named to describe their character. or purpose. Could Lucifer be both an "angel of light" who destroys?
Revelation 17:8 states “the beast that you saw was and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and to go to destruction.” This beast is clarified in verse 11, it states "And the beast which was and is not, is himself also an eighth (king) and is one of the seven, and he goes to destruction." So, we know this beast is the second beast, not the dragon.
HERE'S THE BIGGIE: These two verses, Revelation 17:8 and 11 use the word "perdition" in the KJV! What does PERDITION mean? It is from the Greek word #684 apoleia (ap-o'-li-a) [do you see the root of the Greek name Apollyon?], which means ruin or loss; damnable, destruction, die, perdition, X perish, pernicious ways, waste.
Did you know the antichrist is also called the "son of perdition"?
2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV) "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;".
Compare to the (NAS) "Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,"
Isaiah 14:15 states Lucifer is thrust down to Sheowl (which is the same as the Greek word Hades), to the recesses of the pit. Now earlier, we saw that the dragon and his angels were thrown down to the earth. Well, we know Lucifer is an angel and that the second beast is given power by the first beast, the dragon (Satan).
Abaddon/Apollyon is defined as “the destroyer”. He is the king of the abyss of Hades, a destroying ANGEL. We could then also say, he is the "angel or son of perdition". This would make sense as to why the antichrist has no desire for women (Daniel 11:37) because angels are not only shown all throughout the Bible as coming in the form of men, they do not procreate. Some think this means he will be a homosexual or asexual, but I believe this is confirmation that Lucifer (the antichrist) is indeed the angel of destruction, Abaddon/Appolyon in the flesh!
Lucifer/Abaddon/Apollyon in the flesh? Well Isaiah 14:16 states that Lucifer (king of Babylon, the City called the Great Whore in Rev 17:5) is a MAN who made the earth tremble, shook kingdoms, made the world like a wilderness and overthrew its cities. The word MAN here is from the Hebrew word #376: iysh (eesh); a great man; a champion; a mighty man (a person) from 582, which is a mortal man. We read in Revelation 11:7 that "the beast that comes up out of the abyss [bottomless pit] will make war with them and overcome them." This is speaking of the two witnesses, who are killed by the antichrist! Therefore, Lucifer is an angel of Satan, the dragon, but is not Satan (the dragon); the dragon is the beast that comes up out of the "sea" in Revelation 13:1.

Who is the Antichrist?
Many are studying the Bible trying to find out who the Antichrist will be.
Has the Antichrist arrived ?
The “Beast” or the “beast from abyss” is the Antichrist.
Antichrist is one single person.
“The beast(Antichrist) that you saw , was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast (Antichrist) that was, and is not, and yet is.
9: And here is the mind which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth
10: And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he comes, he must continue a short space.
11: And the beast (Antichrist) that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goes into perdition.

I think George Walker Bush will fulfill this prophecy.

The "beast from abyss" is Antichrist. The "Son of Perdition" is another name of Antichrist.
Judas is called “The Son of Perdition”.
Jn.17:12 tells us that no one will be lost, but the son of perdition, who is Judas.
2 Thess. writes about Antichrist - the Son of Perdition.

Antichrist is called the “King of Babylon”. He is the chief of this superpower.
The “Mystery Babylon” in Revelation 18 :

Babylon would be the youngest and greatest of the end time nations (Jeremiah 50:12).

Torstein, it's interesting reading what different things are aligning to prophecy. All we can do is pray, pay attention, and ask the Lord for confirmation, as He will reveal this "son of perdition"; we know that for a fact. Amen!

Daniel, a Man of Prayer
Another example which supports our premise of the absolute need for prayer is found in the life of Daniel. In 606 BC Israel had been taken captive by another nation becasue of its sin. Years later in Daniel 9 we're told that while reading the prophet Jeremiah, Daniel discovered it was time for Israel's captivity to end. Jeremiah had not only prophesied the captivity of which Daniel was a part, but he also prophesied the duration: 70 years.
At this point Daniel did something very different from what most of us would do. When we receive a promise of revival, deliverance, healing, restoration, etc., we tend to passively wait for its fulfillment--but not Daniel. He knew better. Somehow he must have known that God needed his involvement because he said, "So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes" Dan. 9:3.
No verse in Daniel, as there is with Elijah, specifically says Israel was restored because of Daniel's prayers, but with the emphasis given to them, the insinuation is certainly there. We do know that the angel Gabriel was dispatched immediately after Daniel started praying. However, it took him 21 days to penetrate the warfare in the heavens with the message to inform Daniel that "Your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words" Dan 10:12. I can't help wondering how many promises from God have gone unfulfilled because He Can't find the human involvement He needs. page 31 :)
In response to Torstein, there is much speculation out there as to where end-time Babylon is and who the Antichrist will be (or is). I'm currently reading a recommended book called "What Is the Antichrist Islam Connection?" by Ronald L. Back. It seems apparant that the Antichrist will rise out of the Old Grecian Empire, and will be either Grecian, Turkish, Egyptian, Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian, Iraqui, or Iranian. I'm still reading the book, but it indicates the Great Harlot's religion will be Islam and that the Antichrist will later destroy Islam and replace it with a much worse religion, leading up to the battle of Har-Magedon.
Clare, AMEN. God was faithful to reveal things to Daniel and the prophets, even John, and He will lead us through this valley of the shadow of death and we will fear no evil, for He is with us! Just as He led out Noah and Lot before His wrath fell, I believe He will also do the same for His children in these last days.
Judah's Daughter lets pray Christ will teach us to pray for our present issues, as a nation and Christians, as Esther prayed for her nation of Jews to be saved from the hands of wicked Haman who had plotted to destroy them all. For the mighty Hand of God will deliver as promised. :)
I believe, I believe, I believe, that we stand on the promises of Jesus. He is faithful to us! Those who are not in Christ Jesus are still under the law of sin and death, and it's going to be aweful to see such things. We need to pray His will on earth as it is in Heaven ~ and to deliver us from evil!
Just as Peter didn't want to see our Lord arrested and crucified, Jesus rebuked him (Satan) ~~ these things must happen as prophesied, and we need the faith to endure till the end. I pray, I pray, I pray for the lost ~ for it is not His will than any should perish, but that all should come to repentance!! Hallelujiah, God be with this nation, which was "one nation under God"!!

HOO, this Youtube video is yet more absolute confirmation of the Antichrist-Muslim connection. I have two other hubs addressing this very thing: "The Unholy Trinity" and "2009: Israel and Iran Heat Up!". Christians should beware and be ready for the Mahdi and Isa (Jesus) of the Islamic "Dragon" that comes up out of the "sea" (peoples, nations, tribes and tongues), giving way to the Antichrist and the False Prophet. There's so much pointing this direction. The Lord said the "man of sin" will be revealed prior to His coming....and we are right on the pulse. Thank you for your contribution. There is too much evil in the world for me not to believe that there ain't no devil. We must learn that our warfare is not against people, boy that a hard one, we have to try to look beyond them.
