Mohr University of California reported that they recently completed more than 100 countries in a study suggest that lack of sunlight may increase the risk of lung cancer.

Researchers in several continents of the 111 countries study to assess the latitude, ultraviolet B (UVB) light exposure and the age group the relationship between the incidence of lung cancer.

At the same time, the researchers analyzed cloud cover and the use of man-made aerosols (both absorb UVB), and smoking (the main reason for lung cancer) on the impact of lung cancer incidence.

The results showed that smoking and lung cancer incidence most closely related, 75-85% of lung cancer cases related to smoking. However, sunlight, especially UVB light exposure (the body's main source of vitamin D) would also be affected. The more close to the equator, UVB light is more volume. The analysis shows that the countries farthest from the equator, the highest incidence rates of lung cancer, the most recent country from the equator the lowest rates of lung cancer. Higher amount of cloud cover and atmospheric levels of suspended particles also increased incidence of lung cancer.

Male smoking will increase the incidence of lung cancer, and more than UVB light irradiation can reduce the incidence of lung cancer. Female smokers, cloud cover and atmospheric aerosol will increase the incidence of lung cancer, and UVB light irradiation can reduce the number of lung cancer incidence. Correction factors of smoking, UVB light is still protective effect.

Researchers believe that the relationship between lung cancer and the sun is from the chemical point of view of sense. Because experimental studies show that vitamin D can lead to tumor cell death, thereby inhibiting tumor growth. Although the main reason for smoking is lung cancer, but more UVB light irradiation can reduce the incidence of lung cancer.
