From Canada To Laconia

Laconia Bike Week is being held this year from June 13th to 21st in Laconia. A group of friends are heading down to Laconia New Hamshire and we plan to leave from New Brunswick Canada and staying for about 4 days.

This is isn't the first time they have gone across the border to hit up some of the bike rallys in the US however this will be the first for me so I am looking forward to the action.

The bike I will driving down to Laconia Bike week is a 2007 Harley Davidson Street Bob. This is a good size bike to make the trip with a 1584 CC or 96 Cubic Inch engine in it. We will travelling over a period of two days to get there. The total driving time is about 6-8 hours depending on speed.

Crossing the border should not pose any difficulties. One thing that is required now is a passport. Aside from a brush with the pavement I can't think of anything worse that could happen then to show up at the border after 2 and a half hours of riding and realizing that I have forgot my passport. For those of you planning to head down to Laconia Bike Week now is the time to get your passport, because it takes a few weeks at best.

No Helmet Laws

Driving Laws - Helmet or No Helmet

In every Canadian province riders are required to wear a motorcycle helmet. Once you enter into the US the laws change and some states do not require motorcycle helmets. In the case of Laconia there is not a requirement to wear a helmet.

Living in Canada I have never riden my motorcycle without a helmet and I am completely aware of the dangers of not wearing one, but i can't help but think I might like to give it a try while hitting up Laconia bike week. I am definately not recommending it to anyone, but hey...I guess I just want to know what it feels like. Of course, I won't feel any wind in my hair until I hit the New Hamshire border.

Saddle Up For The Ground Floor - No Frills Riding

When making a long trip over a couple of days many riders like to have the comfort of knowing they have all the essentials they need to survive the road trip. Well I have taken many long road trips with a bike and this time I will not have saddle bags, simply because I have not had a chance to find a good affordable set for my bobber.

As I leave Canada for my trip to Laconia Bike week I will be carrying one small backpack and wearing industrial cargo pants and leather coat with plenty of pockets. What I choose to put in this backpack and pant pockets will ultimately prove to be a chore in itself. Here is a start:

1. Ear Plugs

2. Passport

3. 4 Days worth of underclothes.

4. Wallet

5. Banadana

6. Rain Goggles

7. Gloves

8. Sunglasses

9. A few Small tools.

Accomodations are easy since we have rented a few cottages near the beach but with 14 of us we may be fighting over the beds.

Laconia Bike Week Events

Aside from all of the sexy biker babes, the booze, and the music I am sure we will squeeze in some driving time and maybe even head up Mt. Washington. I can't really say what is going to happen because the type riders we are we just hop on the bikes and go. You can be fairly certain though that the week after the rally I will contribute another hub that talks about the experience I had.

I do know for sure that there are some great activities lined for the week including Music at the Market Place which includes four bands a day! Being with a group of musicians I am sure that this will prove to be where we spend most of our time.

A couple of other interesting events lined up include:

Biker Build-Off at Laconia Roadhouse. This will involve 4 shops competing for big cash prizes. This is all week from 9-1, 2-6 to see their progress. 2nd Annual “Rally for Kids in Crisis” starting at the 1st Assembly of God Church, Auburn, NH.
