Lamborghini Jarama GTS

Lamborghini Jarama Background

In 1970, things were going well with Lamborghini, so Ferruccio started to think about second generation cars. The Lamborghini Jarama, which looked totally different was a mark II Islero. This car, the Lamborghini Jarama, replaced the Lamborghini Islero. (The Islero had problems with the American Safety and emission rules). Ferruccio had Marcello Gandini design the body and it would be built by Mario Marazzi. The Jarama used a shortened Espada chassis, by 10.7 inches which resulted in a low, wide profile, flared out wheel wells, two air ducts in the hood and a front grille that had four partial hidden headlamps. Even though this car was 661 pounds heavier than the Lamborghini Islero, the top speed was claimed to be the same, but in reality it was about 3 mph slower, with a top end of about 162 mph. The Lamborghini Jarama was short lived, only 177 units were built from 1970 to 1972 and became famous by being the "Forgotten Lamborghini".

Lamborghini Jarama And It's Competition

The Lamborghini Jarama had some pretty stiff competition. The Ferrari 365 GTC/4, Jaguar E-Type II, Maserati Ghibli 5000 SS, Aston Martin DBS V-8 and even the Chevrolet Corvette all had major stakes in this field.
