Bi polar disorder is a very serious psychiatric disorder that is difficult to treat. Bi polar people must endure extreme mood swings from periods of manic and hyperenergetic and then dropping to bouts of depression, eventually pushing them towards suicidal and homicidal tendencies if not properly treated. Current bi polar medication is very expensive, costing up to $15 for a daily dosage. Lamictal (also known as Lamotrigene) is a well known bipolar anticonvulsant and approval by the US FDA for treating people with bi polar disorder since 2003. Clinical studies shown that Lamictal provides stronger manic antidepressant properties compared to both carbamazepine and valproate, which is used for consideration when prescribing Lamictal for bipolar treatment.
