Landscaping your front yard is one of the most important tasks you'll undertake in beautifying and grooming your lawn. Since your front yard is what people most often see when they enter your house, it's only important that you take time in improving and developing it. Here are some landscaping and design tips that would help you further in your yard.

Keep Your House Design in Mind

When planning for your front yard's landscaping, you should first determine whether your design would be congruent to your home's exterior. It is one important aspect to consider for a smooth transition of your home's interior and exterior design. If your house were made from brick, you would probably consider creating walkways that are edged in brick; in that way it would pick up the colors of your home and reflect those colors on the ground. Make sure that the dominant color of your walkway matches the color of your roof.

Pay Attention to Walkways

Paying particular attention to the shape and design of your driveway and walkway is a must. Since this is the place where people usually see when they come in to your house. Driveways and walkways should be broad enough for comfortable use. There should be ample space for guests to walk and move around without being caught by plants in your garden.

If you have the budget, installing motion-sensor lighting to driveways and walkways can be of use during nighttime. Just choose the exact lighting that will compliment your home's exterior, thereby providing a harmony between your exterior and your yard.

Choosing Trees and Shrubs

There are important factors to consider when choosing trees for your front yard. One of it is the long-term growth and maturity of trees in your yard. Because trees grow large over the years, you need to consider the space taken up when they become mature. Also be aware that a tree's roots will grow and its extensive root system may disrupt your walkways or even your home's foundation.

There are also other things that you need to remember in maintaining a healthy lawn. An overhang from your roof may deprive some plants of sunlight, depending on their sun requirements and the season. Small bushes and shrubs should be placed four to six feet away from your house to ensure enough sunlight exposure all throughout the year. This step will likely provide you with a trugreen and healthy front yard.

Also make sure that you choose fragrant plants and trees during landscaping. They are good in attracting visitors with their pleasant odor and beauty.

Consider the View

When doing your front yard landscaping, consider the view you are creating for your yard and home. It's is very important to check that your home's front view can be seen both from the inside and from the outside of your house, so as not to create any distractions for guests and visitors. If you have a small front yard, it's best not to overcrowd it with plants.

Also, use plants and shrubs that give emphasis to your home's entry point. For example, place a planter with colorful flowers on either side of your entrance door, or train a vine to grow over your front porch's exterior. This will likely make your entry point more welcoming and eases the transition between the outdoor and indoor of the house.

Add Color

Flowers can be easily added to provide your front yard with a colorful effect. One good option when dealing with your lawn's gardening is to designate particular spots for short-term plantings. Therefore you'll plan to designate certain areas for planting trees and shrubs, as well as plan the remaining space for growing annual or biennial plants. Although you can choose for another option if you prefer a lower yard maintenance scheme. You can grow perennial shrubs and other colorful plants, rather than choosing annuals and biennials, which have shorter life spans and need replacing every one to two years.
