A prospective computer buyer is always confused in between laptops and desktops. Both are offering the same; computing. But laptop offers computing on the move which the desktop doesn’t feature. This article serves as an introduction to laptops and desktops.

First we will discuss about laptops. They are usually preferred by people for whom portability rules the roost. According to them everything that comes in small packages must be really great. They have expensive tastes because for the price of buying a laptop, they can buy two or more desktops. Some of the users buy it purely for the style factor. But some are more serious about their money being spent on such devices and buy it only if the need arises.

These days laptops are mainly being used by professionals with the market being captured to a greatest extent by students also. The performance of laptops which were shunned during the primitive days have now exceeded the desktops. A premium is also to be paid for the portability and computing on the move. Slightly lesser powered laptops are also available which are mainly intended for students. Desktop replacements are also available but they are a bit heavier than their siblings.

We shall discuss about the competitor, desktops in this section. Dekstops are usually preferred by power users who really do a lot of tasks on their pc like playing games, dvd encoding and ripping. They do not mind the extra space taken by the desktops because they get to enjoy faster computing. One of the main attractions is that the parts are easily user serviceable but in laptops opening up the posterior voids any warranty. They are also preferred by users who are on a shoe string budget but want to experience the wonderful world on personal computers.

I have a laptop and bought it because I wanted portabilty within the house so I could work where I liked, in an armchair or at the dining table. This was easily achieved with a wireless modem to connect to the internet.

Also at the time I didn't have a dedicated office space so the laptop really made sense. Now I have a desk and a dedicated working space I think a desk top would make more sense and when I make another purchase it is almost certainly going to be a desk top. I will probably keep my laptop as well so I can take it with me when I travel about.

I would not be without my laptop for anything, with a laptop you have your own office, wherever you may be in the world..so for people like me, who earn their living online...there is no other choice!....but people have different requirements from their pc's, so each to their own I guess. Thanks for the hub Shailini.
