Oasis of the seas

This  is the latest ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean cruise lines.  The Oasis of the seas.  this ship is more that twice the size of the Queen Mary 2, and more than 5 times the size of the Titanic.  The ship was designed and ordered long before the economy took the current downturn, back when it was booming.  The Oasis of the seas took 6 years to build, in a shipbuilding yard in Finland.

Cruise ships

The cost of building this ship was just over 1.5 billion dollars. The ship is 1200 feet long, and 220,000 tons. There are 16 decks on the ship. It can carry 6000 passengers and 2100 crew members.

There are 2700 cabins on board, 4 swimming pools, an outdoor 750 seat theater, an indoor theater, gyms, basketball courts, a theme park, and a small golf course.

One of the pools has a diving tower with springboards and a ten meter platform.

Caribbean cruise

The ship is divided into 7 themed areas for people to stay.  They can pick the theme area that they want to experience.

The ship left Finland on Oct. 30 2009.  It is on it's way to Port Canaveral Florida.  You can follow the progress on the internet at oasisoftheseas.com.  Once in Florida, they will finish the final touches and have a test cruise to the Caribbean.  The ship will go into service in mid December.
