Does a laser hair regrowth treatment work? Although there is no scientific study proving that work, those with hair loss and doctors can testify that they have seen results with them. Although why they work is not entirely known, they work (or at least seem to by encouraging blood flow throughout the scalp). And that is all that matters. Low level laser therapy devices often come in a comb form. Some hair restoration clinics even have large laser devices for their patients. Some doctors swear by their effectiveness and others dismiss them as snake oil. The only methods or products that are scientifically proven to work are Propecia, Rogaine, hair transplants, and toupees.

The history behind laser therapy for hair regrowth:

Products, which tout the effectiveness of laser therapy often cite Andre Mester, who, in 1964, discovered that, by emitting a cold laser light, mice with shaven hair would grow back their hair a lot faster. Although he didn’t see any new hair regrowth, he proved that lasers have some effect on hair growth.

The most common laser for hair regrowth is the Hairmax Laser Comb. I explain it fully in Laser Hair Comb. If you are looking for laser hair regrowth reviews on this product, simply go to Amazon.com where it is sold. After reading most of the reviews you can’t help but think that one of the reasons proponents of laser hair therapy marvel at lasers is due to placebo. In other words, the people who say they have achieved results with the laser comb for hair regrowth just think that they got more hair, when, in fact, nothing has happened. Because the users of this Hairmax hair regrowth product cannot scientifically measure their progress, they have no way of knowing if their $500 investment worked or not. Although this laser treatment for hair regrowth has gotten clearance by the FDA, it does mean that the government backs up any claims that Hairmax states. All it means is that the Hairmax comb is a harmless device.

The other type of laser hair regrowth therapy is the Laser Luce LDS 100, which you’ll find in some hair restoration clinics. It is a small dome/hood like structure, which is filled with lasers, and supposedly stimulates around 70% of hairs in their resting phase. You have to set under this dome and, at least according to the manufacturer, your blood vessels will become excited and this encourage laser hair regrowth.

So, is laser hair regrowth scam or is it a reality? A study made by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery concluded that laser hair therapy can increase the quality of the hair by making it more fuller by increasing the diameter of the hair follicles. This is not that surprising considering that many hair restoration clinics use laser light to improve the quality of hair after a hair transplant. The same study, however, could not find any statistical evidence showing that lasers alone encourage hair growth. Despite these findings there are still hoards of hair loss sufferers who say they have been treated and cured by lasers. Some even report of dramatic gains in hair. Who knows, maybe the scalps of some people react very favorably to laser hair regrowth whereas other scalps see no change.
