There is a lot you need to know if you are interested in laser hair removal costs.  Laser hair removal medical procedures have been around since about 1996.  This treatment is great for people who have hair growing in places they don't want hair.  Often times it can be very embarrassing to take your shirt off if you have excess hair growing on your back or another part of your body.  I'm sure you remember the poor kid in high school who they called Neanederthal or ape.  You know the guy he always had hair sticking out of his shirt collar and his shirt sleeves.  He was also the one who you couldn't tell if he had on a sweat shirt or not because of the hair on his arms.  He definitely could have used some hair removal techniques.

That guy was bad enough but what about his sister who so much hair under her arms that it looked like she had two extra braids.  And it was said she wore out three razors every time she shaved her legs.  There are lots of people who can benefit from the advancements in laser hair removal.  Before this there were only a few ways to get rid of unwanted hair.  One of these was waxing which hurts more than getting your finger nails ripped out.  There was also creams that usually ended up burning you in the process and lastly you could shave.  None of these methods offered anything in the way of longevity and success versus the laser.

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt

One of the big questions always asked by people who are interested in this type of hair removal is if it hurts when the procedure is done.  There are many factors that play into whether or not a person feels pain or discomfort during the removal of the unwanted hair.  The laser is designed to focus the vast majority of the energy onto the hair follicle or growing area of the hair.  Since the laser beam is very, very thin this is fairly easy to do for a skilled operator.

If you are looking for low cost laser hair removal this is one thing to think about.  A poorly trained operator may give do a cheaper job but he or she may cause more pain and discomfort.  Other factors affecting the pair levels are the following:

  • Skin Type-different shades and textures or thicknesses of skin react differently to the laser penetration.
  • Type of laser-there are several makes and models of lasers on the the market and they can have a dramatic difference in how and individual reacts to them.
  • Thickness of hair-The thicker the hair the more energy required to make the hair follicle ineffective.  The extra energy and time involved increases the chances of discomfort.
  • Area Of The Body-The area of the body that is being treated can have an effect on the amount of pain involved.  Certain areas are more sensitive than others.

These can all have an effect on the amount of pain involved.

Laser Hair Removal Prices Vary

There are several factors that can lead to differences in prices for these procedures.  When getting an estimate from a cosmetic surgeon for a hair removal procedure be sure to cover all these variables when talking price.

  • Amount of area being treated-Of course it goes with out saying that the size of the area on the body to be treated has a direct impact on the cost.  The larger the area the greater the cost in most instances.
  • Physician-Different doctors charge different rates depending on where they are located and how long they have been practicing.  The most expensive procedures seem to be in the Midwest while the cheapest are in the South.  You are not always better going with the cheapest doctor because he or she may do substandard work.  Be sure to check out the work on other patients.
  • Number of treatments-This can be a big variable and can vary widely.  Normally a person will need a minimum of three treatments with the average being between four and seven.  This is determined by the hair thickness and the area to eventually be treated.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons state the average countrywide price per treatment is about $429.00.
