Laser Hair Transplant
66As long as people have been going bald, they have wanted to do something about it. Going bald is perhaps one of the most psychologically affecting milestones a person may reach in his or her life. Baldness can be equally devastating for both males and females. Often, balding people feel misunderstood. This is especially true when hair loss sets in at an early age. But it's not until it actually happens to you that you understand other people's pain. Losing your hair changes your appearance. All of a sudden, you are forced to say goodbye to how you used to look. It can leave you with a feeling of being powerless.
This day and age, there are few things available to us in the battle against hair loss. Gone are the days of having your bald head licked by the neighbor's cow. Today, we have actual medicine, topicals and surgical procedures that work effectively against hair loss. Take the drug finasteride and dutasteride for instance. When you take these, the drug's active ingredient interferes with the body's hormonal mechanism that causes baldness. The baldness causing hormone DHT is prevented from forming and you will lose less hair than if you hadn't taken the drug.
Another method of combatting hair loss is topicals. Some topicals out there such as Aminexil and Minoxidil. Aminexil prevents hardening of your hair follicles, thereby extending their lifespan. Minoxidil's working is not fully understood, but it is proven to work against hair loss. Any measurable effect on the hair will disappear a few months after you quit it. But then again, the same goes for finasteride or dutasteride. Whether or not you will use any of these topicals or drugs is a very personal decision.
Laser Hair Transplant
If you don't want to bother with any temporary solution, you might opt for a laser hair transplant. These days, hair transplants are the only known method for permanently increasing your hair density in a balding area where there is no longer hair growing. With a hair transplant, you donate a strip of tissue containing DHT resistant hairs from the back of your head. These DHT resistant hairs can be implanted everywhere on your skin and they will keep on growing without any risk of ever falling out due to the natural hair loss mechanism your skin has.
Hair transplants used to be performed with a scalpel, but nowadays high precision lasers are used to do the job. The laser is controlled by a robotic arm and it is much more precise than a hand wielded scalpel. The laser punctures tiny wounds in the balding area, where your donor hair needs to be transplanted. Once there have been made a large number of tiny wounds, the hairs are ready to be put in. This is usually performed by two staff members at the same time. One of them will work on your right side, the other will work on your left side.
After the hairs are implanted, you will need to take it easy for the next coming days. Don't itch your head, don't touch it for any reason, and certainly don't bump your head or the new hairs won't 'take'. Once you get beyond the two week resting period, your will find that your new hairs will have fallen out. This always happens because of the shock loss. Don't worry about it, it was expected and no doubt your surgeon will have informed you about this up front. At this point, it is safe for you to touch the implanted area again without risk of damaging the new hairs. A few days later, the new hairs will begin to sprout. A few months later, the new hair is growing along naturally with the rest of your hair as if it has never done otherwise!
