There are many different ways to remove a mole and quite a few of these are very effective, but in this article I am going to take a look at some of the medical options you have depending on the type of mole you want to get removed.

Laser Mole Removal

This treatment is usually offered by the same type of companies that offer other laser treatments such as the removal of unwanted body hair and vision correction.

Usually you will be required to have a consultation with one of their specialists before undergoing treatment and this usually involves examining the mole to be removed and talking to you about the process and how it works. If you are being referred by a dermatologist or even your family physician, it is possibly that you can undergo treatment without a consultation but you should request that your physician shares all of your medical files with the treatment center.

Laser treatment is usually used for pigmented moles which are flat moles which are brown or black in color. This method of removal usually requires several treatments (approximately 3) before the mole disappears. This treatment is not usually suitable for protruding moles as the laser light does not penetrate deep enough to be effective.

Excision - Cutting Out The Mole

Some moles may require excision for complete and permanent removal. This is usually a single treatment and is usually used for protruding moles. This is a very effective technique and is the most common form of removal performed.

Electrocautery

This method is usually used for removing skin tags rather than moles and involves a procedure that uses heat to burn the skin tag or mole off. This method removes the superficial layers of the skin so there is never any long term scaring but as with laser treatment, multiple treatments are usually required.

What is the recovery time after mole removal?

If the mole has been cut out you will usually have stitches where are generally left in for a week then removed. If you have undergone laser or heat treatment then the area forms a scab and usually takes a week to drop off. After the scab has gone, the skin area is likely to be reddish in color and will take a couple of weeks before returning to normal.

I have a few protruding moles on my cheek & near temple. Two of them grew to rice grain size. I just cut them at the base with a scissors. It hurt less than pulling a hair out. They bled a few drops. And the cut closed up in a few seconds. And that's the end of the episode.
