Sleepwalking Through The Night

When I woke up in middle of the night I noticed my old work schedule was lying on the floor. I asked my sister why I put it there, and she said I had told her she could wear it. Last night I was so tired I slept walk and took her this piece of paper to wear, I swear! I remember having a dream about someone asking me to give them a piece of paper to draw on, and then I was awake a few minutes later and my sister was telling me could go not wear paper. Apparently she wanted to borrow some clothes while doing laundry, but in my sleep walking I took her a piece of paper. I finally woke up retrieved a dress from my closet, but I went back to my deep sleep after that. When I got up a couple of hours later I was puzzled by why I brought this piece of paper out to her.

Sleepwalking in the night. I love this picture I took of the moon, I do not like that I sleep walk sometimes.

Sleepwalking And Dreams

It is always funny because many of my dreams are associaed with my sleepwalking episodes. In eighth grade I had a dream we lived in another house and the principal was calling my mom. In my dream I distincly remembered the purple wall paper with white dots, whereas our house had wood walls like many abodes in the So Cal mountains. Also, I remember picking up the cream colored wall mount phone in my dream, but our actual phone was a blue model. When I woke up the next mornning my mom told me I had slept walked.

At two in the morning I had come upstairs and woke my mom out of a sound sleep to tell her the principal was on the phone. She glanced at the red digits on the alarm clock and knew no sane administrator would be calling at two in the morning, but went down stairs to see what this was all about.

By the time my mom descended the staircase and glanced at the phone she noticed it was still on its craddle, and I was on my way back to my room! She went in to glance at me, and noticed I had got back in bed and appeared to be sound asleep. That was the first time I remember sleep walking.

The next episode I do not remember, but I had dirty sock to show I had been somewhere. One night when I was in ninth grade I decided to stay up late and watch TV on the couch. I used to love to do that sometimes, especially with the cat curled up on me. When I woke up that morning I had dirty socks and crunched leaves stuck to the bottom, but this made no sense as I had not gone outside in my stocking feet. Maybe I slept walked that night, maybe I did not, but I cannot explain away the leaves on my feet. It was so funny and weird.

When I was in college a girl on my hall was playing hide and go seek in my roommate in the middle of the night, and apparently I asked her if she was Emily. I do not remember that, so I was definitely talking in my sleep there. She had the audacity to tell me over lunch the next day it was creepy that I talked in my sleep, but what about hiding in other peoples' rooms in the middle of the night! This is one of the reasons I am happy to be past those college years where I was forced to have partying roommates that had odd ball hours. Sure I am up late some nights, but running in and out of a room when someone sleeping is just silly.

Last night was the first time I had slept walked in along time, but I sure laughed when I got up and saw my old schedule on the living room floor.

Wow it must be and odd feeling to know you've done things that you're not in control of.

Pete,

More than anything I just think it is funny. What is scary is some people have actually went running in their sleep and got hit by oncoming traffic.

Lgali,

First time I know of sleepwalking I was 13.

Triplet Mom,

The first time it frightened me, but it has happened several times now through out the years. I am still cracking up that I told my sister she could wear a piece of paper.

I live on the first floor and no stairs. The one time I slept walked as a teenager I climbed the stairs fine, but what I would worry about is people who run outside if they sleepwalk.

I haven't walked in my sleep since I was very young. I had three children that all took their turns at it....Good article...

Hi Nancy,

I am sure many can provide a much more scientific explanation, but what I hoped to share was my experiences with sleep walking. Glad you enjoyed it.

You have to be careful, When you'r a sleep tell your relatives to NOT to wake you up. I was sleepwalking also, I did some research about it and it says not to wake up a sleep walker, they could die. It was sayed by doctors. Just tell you relatives to walk you to your bed and lay you down.

Very scary that you *could* walk outside in your sleep.

My son used to sleepwalk, but always in the house.  Then around midnight one night, I heard somebody banging on (I thought) the front door.  Actually the back door.  My 12-yr-old son was on the back porch in his underwear with no idea how he got out there.  All the doors were dead-bolted from the inside and windows closed.  Didn't figure out until the next day he'd gone out the window next to his bed onto the roof over the kitchen, shut the window from the outside, then went up and over that roof and climbed down a porch post.  All in his sleep! We only figured it out after seeing the blanket he took along (apparently to use as a "rope" to get down) at the edge of the roof! Last time (we know of) that he ever sleepwalked.

JamaGenee,

You are right that it is scary someone could walk outside.  Not sure if I did that one time, but it appears that way because my socks were dirty when I got up.  I have slept walked on several occasions, and I was reading something yesterday that said there is a higher incident of people having a genetic predisposition to sleep walking.  My dad actually did break his leg when he slept walk because he feel down the stairs, which was something that I forgot about when I wrote this hub.

I am really glad your son did not fall of the roof considering he was sleepwalking.  I am glad he is okay.

I wonder what went through your sisters mind when you told her to try on that piece of paper? At least you didn't wonder off too far when sleepwalking...I think? I dunno about those unexplained leaves on your socks now. I kinda wrote a similiar hub about sleepwalking. I didn't get too far, that's for sure.

Hahahaha Guess what? I used to sleepwalk too. Although I think I outgrew it now. But they say I still sleep talk every so often. Hahaha We'd be a scary pair if we would be sleeping in one room SweetiePie. :-)

ripplemaker,

It is weird because I had not slept walked in years, so I think I was really sleep deprived or something. Yes it would be funny if we were sleeping in the same room and then both were sleep walking lol.

I talk in my sleep, I had many old girlfriends tell me all about how I would rat myself out that way. I have no desire to cheat on my wife, but if I did, I know I would be so Busted because of my nocternal blabbermouthing.

SweetiePie profile image

I think you sound like a nice guy to worry about blabbering about that. Personally I am just worried about telling people to wear paper again, which makes no sense at all.

Sleep walking for me usually did not feel like anything because I did not even known I had done it until after the fact. I usually had very vivid dreams on the nights I slept walk, and I ended up acting out the dreams lol.
