NUMBER FIVE SPEECH
Winston Churchill said in 1940, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat'.
As the Second World War became reality and Winston Churchill became prime minister, he made a short speed to the House of Commons, "What is our policy? It is to wage war, by sea, land and air. What is our aim? I can answer one word: victory - victory at all costs". It was a note of defiance for the next critical two years and Churchill ruled out a possibility of a compromise peace with Hitler.
Churchill's position as British leader never faltered in spite the fall of France and the Blitz that followed. He had a total commitment to the ultimate victory.
NUMBER SIX SPEECH
Martin Luther King in 1963 said, "I have a dream".
On the centenary of Abraham Lincoln's proclamation freeing American slaves, a great gathering in Washington called for greater justice for America's Blacks. Martin Luther King the foremost civil rights leader addressed the many thousands.
He sent a message of non-violence, his dream of 'a beautiful symphony of brotherhood' between Black and White. His call 'to let freedom ring'.
It was one of the most celebrated speech of the 20th century. It brought forward civil rights legislation in the United States. It send messages out into the world. Eventually it gave South African's a voice and apartheid was abolished.
