By Hello, hello,

Lavrenti Beria born in 1899 and executed in 1953 was the director of Soviet Secret Police. He organised a large-scale purge of Joseph Stalin' political opponents. He was born in Georgia in 1899. He joined the Communist Party in 1917. In 1921 he became the head of Lenin's secret police in Georgia, the CHEKA.

In 1936 Beria was responsible for political purges for Stalin in the Transcaucasim Republic till 1938. After that he became the head of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs better known a Soviet Secret Police.

He immediately organised a purge of the police bureaucracy. He built a big system of prison labour camps also called gulags all over the country.

1941 Beria became deputy prime minister of the USSR. In 1945 Beria became a marshal of the Union.

1953 when Stalin died Beria dried to take over but a coalition of Georgi Malenkov, Vyacheslav Molotov and Nikita Khrushchev defeated Beria's plans.

He was accused of treason. He was tried and executed in secret. He was responsible for the deaths of millions of people as well as the suffering and mostly death of people in the gulags.

I am sure Beria was even too much for Malenkov, Molotov and Krushchev and is why they executed him because they feared him.
