With the desire to achieve peace or a feeling of balance in my ‘self’, I searched self-help articles, spiritual sites, and religious sites. I knew I was capable of having this balance because I had felt it before. However, it seems that whenever I find this balance, life would throw a curve ball and I would find myself back at the beginning. I would search my thoughts and feelings and find the things I did not like and work to change them. Recently I have been hearing about The Law of Attraction or LOA, so I have done some more searching and reading of articles.
I found that this is not something new nor is it really a secret. It has been around for centuries. The Law of Attraction works with your mind and the universe. Basically, your thoughts send vibrations out into the universe and these vibrations are “heard” and sent back to you. If you frequent self-help sites or have knowledge of meditation and visualization, this concept is nothing new. However, there was something about the way LOA is presented that intrigued me. So, I asked for and received a book for Christmas, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
I couldn’t wait to start reading The Secret, I went through the day, Christmas Day, with the thought that I was going to lie in bed while my sons and boyfriend play computer games and read The Secret. With the day now night and the boys all settled at their respective computers, sounds of Battlefield 2 in the background, I lie in bed, propped up with pillows, reading The Secret.
With less than half the book read, I have realized that instead of concentrating on what I need to change and how to change it, I just needed to concentrate on being happy. All I really needed to do was stop dwelling on the what’s and how’s of happiness and just be happy. Now that I’ve got that figured out, on to the next step, how do I just be happy?

How to BE Happy
Before we can be happy, we need to figure out what happy is to us, personally. Happiness is a feeling we have, an emotion. Just as sadness, frustration and anger are emotions, but we are talking about happiness here, so let’s not stray. If we are feeling happy we send out happy vibrations, same as if we are feeling sad. And according to the Law of Attraction, what you send out is what you receive.
What creates the emotion of happiness in you? I wrote a Xombyte not too long ago about this, asking people to make a list of what makes them happy. I actually wrote that article before I started reading The Secret, but found in reading the book that I was actually already on my second step of implementing the Law of Attraction. See how easy this could be?
Now, we all know that we cannot be happy 100% of the time, but if we remember in those times of unhappy, to stop and think happy thoughts, we will get back on track with being happy and one step closer to that balance in our selves. Which I have also recently defined for myself as a balance of self and the vibrations we feel from the universe.
