LeapFrog Didj Custom Gaming System
75The LeapFrog Didj- The Perfect Childrens Gift
The LeapFrog Didj is currently one of the hottest selling hand held video game systems out on the market today. It's got great games, learning capabilities, and customization features that are out of this world cool. I bought one for my kid about 3 months ago and they haven't been able to put the Didj down. They've played the Jet Pack Hero's Game and Android Invasion so many times that they can beat they without even thinking about it. To be honest, they have been asking for some more games and that's ok with us because we are just planning on getting them some more games for Christmas so we can play them- I mean our kids can play them... *wink wink.
Here is my personal critique of the LeapFrog Didj Custom Gaming System-
My kids really like the games that they have so far. They have tried two games Android Invasion and Jet Pack Heros (which was included), and both were very entertaining. The educational aspect seemed to be included as kind of a side measure but didn't seem like it was the basis for the game itself. To give you an example, in both games, in order to advance to the next level you must solve a math problem or spell a word right in order to advance to the next level. These games were some of the originals however many newer games have gotten better. I read about someone complaining about some of the violence, but come on, you can't sheild your kids from reality, besides it's not like people's heads are exploding, I mean there isn't even any blood, just characters shoting each other and things of that nature- you know a typical video game.
One thing I like about the Didj is the ability to gain points while playing games that can be spent online to add content to the games and the Didj. This system was a little slow to get going but should be up by now. I am waiting to see what the upgrades are so it should be interesting. Once you get to know the didj and the website that you log in to, you can start to appreciate the highly customizable features like changing the songs, costumes, themes, colors, and even the skill level of the educational aspects of the game.
Another great feature is the ability to change the way your LeapFrog Didj looks by adding skins to them. Skins are basically a designer cover that personalizes the way the system looks. This is especially helpful if you plan on purchasing more than one if you have 2 or more kids because they will be able to distinguish between them. The skins covers also protect the outside adding an additional benefit to using them. They have many colors and designs to choose from and if you allow your kid to choose which one they want, you will be sure to put a bright smile on there face.
There are a few drawbacks to consider-
When you buy the system, it does not include batteries or a re-charger, these things are additional expenses so keep that in mind becaue buying batteries once or twice is ok, but I would reccommend getting the re-charger right off the bat so you dont waste your money on batteries.
Also the games need to be "synced" before you start playing so you can't just turn it on and start playing like some other systems. Once you sync your system and get use to navigating the website, it becomes very easy to do and even fun for you and your child to customize the game.
Overall Review and Conclusion-
Overall, the LeapFrog Didj is a great gaming system that I even enjoy playing. Having fun and polishing your math skills at the same time is never a bad thing. I would have loved it as a kid and am sure your child will love it too. Like any new gaming system, new games will steadily come out as time goes on so your kids will always have something to look forward too. Right now I believe there are 10 games, but more are expected to come out by Christmas.
