Whether you have a puppy or a adult dog inside your family, dog potty training rules are similar, with the difference that a puppy will have the desire to "go" much more often. They need to "go" after each activity, no matter what it is. They will also be consuming more meals so observably they will need to "go" more.

I Didn't Mean To "Go".

Here are a number of common rules which apply to all dogs that need to be house trained.

* You need to make sure that you allow them outside on a very regular basis. It is not good to scold a dog if it has been inside for hours and had an accident. It takes time for them to be able to hold it. Allow them outside as much as you can in the day. This could mean coming home for lunch or having a friend to allow them outside for you.
* Limit the amount of food and liquids you allot them at night. Bear in mind it takes around ten hours for dry food to pass through a mature dog. Feed it early in the A.M. and by a suitable time in the evenings. Once your dog is taught then they can hold it much longer. The guideline is for training purposes.
* Puppies cannot hold it as long as this and this is where a lot problems begin.
* Night time accidents are normally the foremost trouble for many owners of both Puppies and adult Dogs. The following is the way to educate them but it involves real work. You need to set an alarm for 3 A.M. If there are no messes, let the dog outside until it uses the potty, if there has been an accident, set the alarm for earlier the next night. Every night you will increasingly put the alarm forward until it is at your normal wake up time. It takes a week or two but it does work incredibly well.
