Learning guitar chords - Practice.

Practice.

If you really want to know how to learn guitar chords, there is no real shortcut to regular daily practice. I here you say there must be easier ways than actually working at it. Well here's the thing - the more you do something the better you get at it. Don't give up on it. OK you've practiced that chord every day for a whole week and you still can't quite git it down. Well this is when most people give up and are distracted by the easy way out. Just keep at it it will come.

The key to getting the tune to flow is learning how move from one chord to the next on the fretboard. The trick here is seeing or visualizing in your mind how you can best do this. What finger goes where and just how you will do that particular move.

Improving your finger moves.

Pick easy Chords to get started.

Take it a step at a time.Do the easy things first. Some easy chords to get started on for example - G to A, E to A, D to G. Master these then move on to slightly more difficult chords.

A good way to learn is changing from one guitar chord to the next chord. Practice this and you will see great progress in your confidence and your playing ability.

Fingers.

When strumming, using your fingers to change chords and pressing the string onto the fretboard, all involves using your fingers. So to build up strength in your fingers, small finger weights can be used to build up there strength. Wide scale exercises, pressing on the board and finger push ups, all help.

Practice makes perfect.

Your aim should be to reach a stage where You really should be able to change from any open chord to any other open chord without looking. Try learning by closing your eyes, even using a blindfold, whatever works for you.Looking where your fingers are when you start is quite natural but then try not to look so much as time goes on. Eventually you should be able to change chords without looking.

Bad Habits that should be avoided.

  • Practicing just one chord at a time.

Easy mistake to make but quite natural. By practicing three chords and moving from one to the next is much more beneficial and starts to make you feel more at home with the guitar. Your brain wakes up and takes note of whats happening.Your really starting to learn now.

  • Lets see that pinky!

This is a bit strange but your fingers should always be just above the fretboard, just hovering when they are not been used. Many people seem to hide the little finger out of sight - not good. Why? Here's an example. When you form a D chord, your little pinky should be somewhere over the high E or B string. Don't tuck it out of sight. Learning more advanced chords will be much easier too later on.

  • Where to start strumming or picking from.

We talking here about the root note. That means the root of that particular chord. Example:- With an E chords root note is an E chord which is played as the open low E string. That is, start strumming or picking from that note.

Rounding off.

Ears and eyes.

Seeing how a professional changes chord is fine. Take note, see how they do that and hear , I repeat HEAR, how how it sounds. After all its music we are trying to make. That's what people hear. Look at your music sheet, photo video or whatever but get a feeling how it should sound. The sound is all important. Use all your senses to play as well as you can. Practice it and steady improvement will be the result.
