74Learn About Chinese Sentence Structure and Grammar - It's EASY!
A lot of people have requested that I do a tutorial on how to form sentences in Mandarin Chinese. The good news is that in general the grammar and sentence structures in Mandarin Chinese is quite simple and easy to understand, with a few exceptions.
In the video below you'll learn the most simple sentence structure in Mandarin Chinese which is Subject Verb Object, just like English.
In our example we'll learn how to say "I eat food". To say I eat food in Mandarin Chinese we say: Wo3 Chi1 Fan4. Those numbers indicate the tones in Mandarin, 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The first character Wo3 (我) means me or I. Next comes the verb. To eat you say Chi1 (吃) with the first flat tone.
The next word you need to say is the word for food. Rather than saying "food" as we say it in English the Chinese say risc or fan4 (饭). This character actually literally means cooked rice.
So, to put it all together you say: Wo3 Chi1 Fan4, or in Chinese characters: 我吃饭. What the video below and that will help with your pronounciation.
