Learning Spanish Websites

This list could be infinite as the number of online Spanish language learning resources is huge. I've kept the list to just the top 10 I've found useful in learning Spanish.

LiveMocha - This is one of my favourite sites of all time. It's got loads of free lessons to teach you Spanish but what's great is you can get your submissions corrected and critiqued by native speakers. There's a great social element to this site that makes learning the language a whole lot more fun.

LingQ - this site has a paid version but the free lessons are more than adequate for most people. It works by providing excerpts of text about a range of subjects. When you read the texts you label any words you don't know and these can then be exported as flash cards to learn for the next lesson. Over time you build up a bank of words you know.

BBC Languages - the BBC have always been great providers of languages material for beginners. They have a good selection of games, interactive lessons and even a soap opera to watch in Spanish.

Quizlet - an online flash card site where you can use other peoples flash card sets or create your own. This site is huge and covers far more than just the Spanish language. This is great for printing out your flash cards and using those secret moments to learn Spanish on the go.

Study Spanish - part of a paid service but this site offers a great selection of free lessons, quizes and even some verb drills for helping with your grammar.

Spanish Pen Friends

Making friends with Spanish speakers online means you can practice all the Spanish you've been learning for real. It can really boost your abilities and there's loads of places to make friends with Spanish speakers online.

InterPals.net - This is th ebiggest site and offers loads of features to help you contact Spanish speakers from across the world. Its similar to Facebook with Walls, profiles and messaging.

Lingofriends - This is a good site and probably the second biggest. I'm a member on here and have a couple of friends I keep in touch with.

LiveMocha - I already mentioned this one above and its great because you also get lots of lessoins included that you can have reviewed by native speakers.

Podcasts

There is now a huge collection of Spanish podcasts out there for absolutely no cost. The majority of these services used to be paid-for premium podcasts but over the past couple of years they've released their resources for free while offering paid subscribers extra lessons and games. Many of these podcasts can be found within iTunes as well as many I couldn't fit on this list.

The most popular podcasts are:

Coffee Break Spanish - these guys started it all off with their free and easy podcasts that introduced Spanish in bitesize 10 minute chunks. Within a few lessons they had a huge following and they're still one of the best on the web.

SpanishPod - Part of a much bigger language podcasting networking including Chinese, Italian, French and English. The paid service is huge though I must admit I've never used it - can't afford it! :)

Showtime Spanish - the more advanced version of CoffeBreak Spanish these podcasts are done almost entirely in Spanish so their catered to intermediate and advanced students of the language. Really good for basic if you don't mind being baffled at times. ;)
