Health Concerns

I enjoy publishing hubs that are related to diabetes. I have diabetes myself and am insulin dependent. I was not aware that I had type 2 diabetes until a random screening at the doctor's office brought this to my attention. I had been having complications for quite some time, such as skin infections, urinary tract infections, thirst, and tiredness. I was also having an overweight problem.

After changing doctors since this doctor that diagnosed me didn't really know how to handle my condition, I changed. My new doctor which I found through a very competent RN, was very aggressive in handling my case since my sugars were running over 200 or better. I was placed on medication since I had already lost weight and it didn;t really work. I was stable for about ten years on just a number of diabetes pills until my sugars once again, became out of control. It was then that I was placed on Lantus insulin, which has worked well for me. Lantus is a basal insulin that is not likely to cause hypoglycemia as other insulins do. So it is a good starter insulin if your pills are not quite doing the job.

There are some pre-diabetics out there that are able to lower their sugars just by diet and exercise. But this is not the case for all people as it wasn't for me. Basically, it all depends on your body chemistry. Those that do not have to move on to pills or insulin are lucky, and those who do, at least have something out there to help them avoid the inevitable complications.
