Being able to read the tarot cards is fun and really not that hard to do once you know the basics. Tarot cards have entertained and amazed people for hundreds of years. A lot of the symbolism found on the illustrations on tarot cards, dates back all the way to ancient Egypt and hieroglyphics.

There are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of different types of tarot card decks and even more books available on the subject. Figuring out where to get started can be the hardest part about learning to read the tarot cards. Which deck is right? Which book is right? Hopefully I can answer some of these questions for you and get you well on your way to reading tarot cards like an expert in no time at all.

My mame is Bambi aka: Mystic Mama, I have been reading tarot cards for over 30 years now. I have been teaching others to read the tarot for over 20 years. I got my first deck of tarot cards when I was 9 years old. My Grandmother gave them to me for Christmas, thinking it was some colorful childrens card game.

I've been hooked ever since, and spent the years since them reading the cards for friends, family and professionally. Tarot cards are a wonderful tool for personal growth and self discovery, as well as a tool for divination.

With so many wonderful, beautiful and magical tarot decks available, choosing a deck that is right for you can be quite the challenge. For those just beginning their tarot journey, I always recommend starting with one of the Rider-Waite decks. I also require the use of a Rider-Waite deck when I teach a tarot class or workshop.

Why?

Almost every tarot card deck that has been designed in the last 100 years is based on the illustrations on the Rider-Waite deck. The symbolism on this deck it at it's purest form. Once you have learned to read tarot cards with this basic deck, you are then able to work with almost any other deck out there. If you learn the basics, with a very specialized deck, then that may be the only deck you are ever able to read with. Who wants to limit themselves to one deck, when there are hundreds of options available.

Reading the tarot cards is mostly an intuitive experience. There is no one right or wrong meaning for the individual cards, just suggested meanings.

What Does That Really Mean?

That means that of the literally hundreds of books available about "how to read tarot cards", there really is no one right or wrong book. Each book contains a listing of each card's general meaning, based on the symbolism on that particular card, plus the author of that book's own personal intuitive interpretation of each cards.

This can make learning to read the tarot, very confusing for a beginner. You might have 2 or 3 different books, that all have similar, but also very different interpretations for each cards.

This is why you need to develop your intuition.

Once you learn the basic meaning of the symbolism on each card, the rest is all intuitive. In order to read tarot cards accurately, you need to develop your own personal interpretation for each card, based on the symbolism on that card combined with your own intuitive impression of that card. Spending some time developing your own intuition will make learning to read tarot cards much easier.

Reading tarot cards is fun and a great way to be the life of any get together or party. Tarot cards are also a wonderful tool for self discovery and personal growth. No matter if you want to learn to read tarot cards just for yourself or to become a professional reader, you will never regret taking the time to learn.
