Learn to say "NO" to enhance personal finance
60
"No" is such a tiny word that it's neither difficult to pronounce nor spell. Yet, at times it just becomes impossible to say a tiny "No". Not been able to say no is a disability you should overcome, if at all you suffer from it. I do. I find it difficult saying no and then suffer from the consequences of not saying No.
You can identify with many such situations in life, where, a small little "No" in time could have saved you more than $9. May be a small list of "should-have-said-no" situations can help us identify the problem better.
1. When a colleague, who never pays the bill, proposes going to an expensive restaurant - If you know that you will end up paying that huge bill, especially when you are at the month's end, a sweet simple "No" could save you $100.
2. When your spouse blackmails you emotionally for financial favours, such as entertaining friends - A big "No" will make him/her realize that he/she shouldn't have exhausted the salary in the first week itself.
3. When your neighbour's freaky kids rack up your house - A stern "No" would save you from the replacement bill of your precious vase.
4. When your kid insist on buying some toys which you do not approve - A cajoling "No" with an explanation will help your kid to understand your point.
5. When you feel like going from window shopping to real shopping with your credit card - A compelling "No" can only prevent you from the temptations and can prevent a financial catastrophe.
6. Lending too much of money to friends and relatives - It's good to help people, but you should know where to say a polite "No" to personal lending and avoid regrets.
7. When you and your spouse decide on taking a personal loan to pay off the credit card bill - Say a wise "No" to straighten out your finance. Cut down on regular expenses and lead a humble life for few months to pay off your bills.
8. When you are pressed by close acquaintance to buy Amway or Avon products - Say a clever "No" and prevent unwanted expenditure.
We come across many more situations in our day to day life and wished "I-should-have-said-NO". But it's never late to learn how to say NO and save yourself from further inconvenience.
