Learning to play lead guitar
Learning to play lead guitar is not a simple job. And every artiste does not fantasize of performing lead guitar on stage in front of thousands of people. But if your goal is to become the next Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) or the next Slash (Guns N'Roses) you have to consider the information below.
Why is the lead so crucial that the group wishes to keep him and respects him? In one word, he is the guide. He chooses what music the group will play.
A lead guitarist is someone who, aside from the vocalist, creates rapport amidst the crowd. He gets individuals's attention and makes sure that he satisfies them using his guitar skills.
.
Before starting your career as a lead guitarist, you must first choose the type of music you will focus on jazz, rock, blues, etc. Then you must find out if you have what it takes. One must have and follow:
a. An objective
Most guitarists don't in fact know what they wish that may lead to a dream or frustration. You have to set goals for yourself. .
.
b. Right Attitude
Aspects like this require a great deal of perseverance. If you want to see yourself on top of that stage with lights and all, you have to have the potential to perform the part. You must be confident, full of energy (act a little bit crazy) and act like you own the stage.
c. Preparation
Just because you have that part on being the lead doesn't mean you have to stop practicing. You can not afford being the reason for negative comments, except if that is part of your image. That is why you can not stop exercising.
d. Skills and knowledge
If you wish to blow your audience away you must come up with new tricks and show your guitar skills. Take Carlo Santana for instance, he is probably one of the best guitarist in the world. But how did he obtain this status? Well he showed people that he could perform 2 guitars at once.
e. Flexibility, Discipline and Respect
In a band, members must be flexible. They have to accept and deal with others' differences, point of view, attitude, etc. Group members have to maintain discipline and respect each other. It is the role of the lead to make sure of that. These three crucial elements are the keys to a successful working relationship.
Remember, learning to play lead guitar is one thing but becoming a fine lead guitarist is another. You certainly must consider the list above before deciding anything. Have you got what it takes to be lead guitarist?
