Four Steps to Keeping Your Boots Looking Great

                                              Leather Boot Care

1. Clean:

Dirt and dust are a worst enemy to leather. Wiping with a damp cloth frequently can prevent dirt and dust particles from breaking down microscopic fibers that make leather strong and durable.

2. Condition

You should only condition leather when it is clean and dry. Conditioner is used to penetrate through the pores making leather soft and pliable. Lanolin based conditioners are best to use. Conditioners will vary depending on the type of leather used. For instance, reptile skin requires conditioners made for thinner, more dense scaled leather to protect the membranes that connect them.

3. Polish:

Rejuvenate your boots by applying a boot cream in a closely matched color. This will cover blemishes and scratches in leather and also bring a glossy finish. Only boots that have a finish can be polished. Cream based polish is recommended over the use of wax for dressier leathers. Wax polishes are best when extra protection from wetness is desired. Remember waxes will attract dust more than creams.

4. Protect:

Apply a non-silicone water and stain protector. It's best to use cedar boot trees when storing to help maintain your boots’ shape and form.
