Legal Credit Repair
56Legal credit repair is something that is freely available depending on your level of commitment, and there is actually an assortment of legal credit repair options as long as you know where to look. When people stress the fact that they only participate in legal credit repair, and not credit repair in general it is typically a play on how so many of these credit repair companies have sprouted up over the past few years and have been offering people the world and more. The truth is that many of these credit repair companies are practicing false advertising and many of them are outright in existence to scam people out of their money. It has become common knowledge that many of these companies may be less than reputable, and for this reason many people are in search of what is now called legal credit repair.
Credit Repair Company Avoidance
The good news is that you don’t have to do business with any of these companies to begin to repair your credit. Most of these credit repair companies make essentially two kinds of offers. They either say they can eliminate some or most of your debt by negotiating with your creditors, or they say that they can provide you with a debt consolidation loan that can give you one easy monthly payment instead of having to make each of your separate payments each month.
Both of these kinds of offers can be illegitimate, and while some of these companies may be able to follow through with what they say, it is highly recommended that you just stay away from these companies all together. Not only will these companies rarely provide the kind of service they are advertising, they will often times charge you money even if they can’t give you what they originally told you they could.
Legal Credit Repair Options
There are numerous legal credit repair options available to you if you can avoid these shady credit repair and debt consolidation companies. This is not to say that you shouldn’t pursue credit counseling which actually in most cases is provided by fairly legitimate companies. Regardless you should always perform your due diligence on any company or program you are choosing to follow through on because within this industry nothing is guaranteed.
You actually don’t have to pay any company any money to begin to repair your credit, and really you just have to do some research to find out what steps you need to take depending on your situation. Some of the major steps you can take can be done fairly quickly and will provide you with almost immediate results.
Most credit is negatively affected, and when I say this I mean that a score is lowered not by not having enough positive activity on the report, and rather is mostly affected by a large proportion of negative activity. If you can resolve the negative activity you can often times bring your credit score up from a poor level to a fair or good level within a month or so as long as you know what you’re doing.
Taking Action
First you need to check your credit report for errors. Errors will kill your credit report and I have experienced this first hand a few times and have been lucky to catch the error before it did any serious harm. Any incorrect accounts, incorrect late payments, or any other kind of inaccuracies can bring your score down without being grounded in any kind of reality. The great thing is that once you fix these errors your credit score will immediately rebound and this is why it is essential to analyze your credit report and fix any errors as soon as possible.
Next you should try and make all of your credit accounts current. This means that you need to stop making late payments, and start making on time payments. You need to also make any back payments that your creditors may require to make the account current again. Once you do this it is not uncommon for a credit score to jump fifty to one hundred points within about a month.
Once your accounts are current, you should then try and pay down your balances on all of your revolving accounts so that you are only utilizing thirty percent of your combined credit limits. Using anything above thirty percent will cause your credit score to drop each month and if you can cut down your balances below this amount then you will see an immediate bounce to your credit score.
In the end performing legal credit repair is just a matter of knowing what you’re doing and taking action, and while there are companies that provide legitimate credit repair services, many of these companies are less than reputable and should be avoided to save money.
