We have a right to know

Healthcare Reform is a very hot topic in American Politics today. The congressional recess is almost over and the bill will be voted on one way or another. As Americans who will be directly effected by the outcome of this legislation, I believe we have a right to know some answers to some very basic questions about what is or is not in the current legislation before congress:

Barack Hussein Obama:

If the Health Care Reform Plan you have 'guaranteed' will pass is so great-why are You and Your Family, members of Congress, Senators and their families exempted from it? (reference p. 114, line 22)

Most people will agree that a big contributor to the out of control cost associated with health care is a direct result of the high cost doctors and hospitals incur for liability insurance as a result of exorbitant settlements won by trial lawyers in malpractice suits.

Why is there no Tort Reform in the current legislation?

My assumption as to why Tort Reform is not included in the current Healthcare Reform Bill is that it may be directly related to the estimation that 95% of all monies raised for political donations by TRIAL LAWYERS is given to DEMOCRATIC Campaignees.

Why isn't removing regulations preventing across state lines competition between insurance carriers part of this reform?

Allowing a free market environment where insurance companies can compete by lowering cost to the insureds should be self evident as means to reducing health care costs. You can not create a competitive market by creating a monopoly-which is exactly what a government run healthcare system would be.

Health Care Reform is Needed

I understand that Health Care Reform is needed. I too, want some version of Health Care Reform to come to pass. However, I am not entirely sold on the current Bill HR 3200. Namely because of the omissions and questions left unanswered. I believe it needs to be fully read and comprehended by every single member of Congress that will cast a vote on it. I believe it needs to be much more clearly defined than how it is currently written. I do not understand or agree with the current Administrations push to shove this down the American people's throats without fully explaining their intentions.

Dear rsmallory,

You make some very valid points, as usual. The answers have to come from the idiots in Congress who suddenly seem brain-dead. I have no idea what is going on in Washington, but it certainly is scary.

Interesting read. I am following what's happening with the Health Care issues in America. Hope Obama makes the right decision for everyone.

The people who ARE up in arms about the Health care Are the ones who actually read it. I feel that there is another underlying cause for the push, besides total control, I just can't put my finger on it yet. Keep hubbing.

RS great questions, what we all need to really know BEFORE attempting any correction is understanding the real problem. There are 4 "spokes on the wheel" of healthcare issues, only a small portion of one is addressed in this current legislative package. This particular bill is again arranged in the Obabmaites' form of government control over the public. Every citizen should inform their Governmental representation if they vote for this plan in its current form YOU ARE OUT.

To see the four spokes, examples of outrageous billing and the questionable and dispicable practices of the "medical community" take a look at

There is another healthcare Bill in committee, Bill 3400, that addresses what you've listed here. It includes tort reform and is for deregulation and free market balance. Look at www.wnd.com and search for Bill 3400 (or GOP healthcare bill). I agree with jiberish, the only ones up in arms about this are those who have read it. Those who think it's ok are those who, just because Obama said so, think it's ok. Great hub - I like your thinking and steady approach.

Real health care in America will start when private health insurers are put out of business.

I'm a little late to the party but Paul in Russia has no clue.

We have no private insurers. They are all heavily regulated by the government cartel. They are not free to operate as they wish.

Real health care in America was abandoned long ago.
