Lego Robot Solves Sudoku Puzzle
60
Hans Anderson, a hacker from Sweden has created a robot based on a Lego Mindstorms NXT Kit to solve the puzzling game, Sudoku.
The
robot with the help of an optical scanner and character recognition
software first scans the puzzle and feeds them into an on-board
computer, which then does the math work to get the right puzzle. Once
the puzzle is solved, the robot fills the blank spaces with actual
numbers.
Andersson tells Cnet.com that solving the missing numbers is easy with a backtracking algorithm. But he added that the built-in Mindstorms processer is very slow and doesn't allow recursive functions, so he had to tinker its program. Despite Andersson calling it as slow, the robot still solves the puzzle faster than many of us.

Previously he created Lego Mindstorms NXT Kit to solve Rubik game and now this.
Hats
off to Anderson for creating a neat robot, which we can use (if he
produces it commercially) to solve some of the tough Sudoku puzzles.

I don't think I'm going to buy one if ever it comes out. But it's pretty neat, huh? :)
Eovery, yes, it is not the regular robot, we have to custom built, there are plenty of groups online who can guide if one is interested.
BeatsMe, yes, they are very novel :)
I have heard people talking about playing Sudoku is good for the brain, but what else are you learning! nothing!
I think its a pointless game and there are many other games that can be played which stimulate the brain just as much, and your also being educated at the same time! such as crosswords or many other brain training games!
Compu-smart, good point. I play Mahjongg, Sudoku, Crossword puzzles, they are all equally good. I think you are right we need a variety of games in life.

I am the first to comment.
This is no regular Lego robot you can buy off the shelf. But it proves that Lego is decent stuff and can be built up.
Keep on Hubbing.
