The Lemon Cleanse is known by many other names including the Master Cleanse, the Lemonade Diet, the Lemon Detox and the Lemon Fast. A naturopath named Stanley Burroughs originally created it in 1941. It has survived for over 60 years because thousands of people have successfully used the cleanse over the years and spread the word.
Part of the recent attention to the lemon cleanse is driven by the stories of celebrities who have tried it and gotten great weight loss results. You may have heard about Beyonce Knowles and her loss of 22lbs to prepare for her role in Dreamgirls. The actor Jared Leto used the cleanse to lose 72 lbs for a movie role.
