Leroy's Legacy
63This Poem Is Done In The Same Passion As The Marine Corp Hymn. Leroy Took Pride In This Hymn...As All Marine's Do.
Leroy's Legacy (*)
A Prayer for Support for a Marine and his Duty!
When late in the day and I'm still at war,
Don't fret over me and ask "What am I fighting for" ?
Just know...I am right where God has meant for me to be...
Standing right here...with my buddies beside me!
When...in this Hellfire and Rage...
I should be struck down at a young age.
Just know...that I loved you...and I loved the Corp!
And I believe in the U.S. of A....and what we are fighting for!
And know...that I would have never lived...If I had not come here first...
Be Strong and Live On...Should I receive the worst!
But...even more importantly than anything is...
And make sure that I would never want to miss...
The Hand that the Good Lord gave me!
Was'nt to be in the Army, Air Force, or Navy...
But, in the one created especially for me...Do or Die !
The U.S.M.C....Semper Fi !
______________The Legacy of One Brave Marine_______________
(*) Note: Leroy died in Fallujah, Iraq on March 26, 2004. He was one of the first from his Platoon to die there after the Marines first arrived in Fallujah. He died while bravely returning evasive covering fire for his fellow Marines during an ambush....from a lone position atop a Humvee...right in plain view of the enemy. Thank You, Pfc. Leroy Sandoval Jr. (USMC) for your selfless service to our country and for being a great kid prior to being a great Marine. You are missed so very much...Yet , We Support your Decision to Stay on your Machine Gun until Everyone was OK...and Carry out your Duty.
Signed, your Step-dad.
