Rodeo In February

Every January and February, the slogan, "Rodeo San Antonio" is plastered everywhere from billboards to newspaper ads to TV ads.

The cowboys are competing for prizes so this is more than just fun for them. Some travel from city to city, competing for prizes.

My first time, I must admit I was a little nervous when those scary bulls came charging out. I truly thought I was going to see blood and gore but, amazingly, the clown saved the day. Then I got scared for the clown, but he knew what he was doing.

The clown is not just anyone with a made-up face. This guy is a famous rodeo clown named Leon Coffee. He knows exactly what he is doing to help cowboys "escape from danger" and at the same time, he entertains the crowd by being funny. You and your kids will enjoy his antics.

Now when the rodeo portion is over, each night a comedian or a country singer performs a show at the rodeo San Antonio has. You will get to see somebody famous each night. Some people I know go almost every night during February. If, like me, you are on a budget and cannot afford to go every night, check out the schedule of who is doing the show each night and try to get tickets to see your favorite performer if you are going to be in San Antonio then.

For instance, Reba McEntire is playing on Monday night, February 9 and I just love her. I saw her in concert back in 1985 when she was just becoming famous. What a fabulous performer she is!

For Valentine's Day, Billy Ray Cyrus is playing! There are also many other great performers during the other days, but these are the ones I like best.

It is going to be a great year to Rodeo San Antonio! So come on. If you are lucky enough to visit San Antonio during this time, get your tickets ASAP and I will see you there!

San Antonio Stock Show

Every February, the San Antonio Stock Show And Rodeo comes to the Alamo City. The sign above is displayed in malls all over San Antonio advertising tickets to the rodeo. The rodeo is a really big deal here!

It all starts out with a citywide Cowboy Breakfast held early on the last Friday of January.

If you are in town in the middle of February, plan to go for some great entertainment. Country stars and comedians play each night.

There is a carnival midway, the biggest junior livestock show in the United States, tons of delicious foods to sample, and the actual rodeo show with bull riding, roping, and barrel racing.

If you have cowboy enthusiasts in your family, bring them to see cowboys rope calves and ride bucking bulls. You can see roping and tying and barrel racing and the whole cowboy bit!

For the little ones, there are rodeo clowns that will keep them laughing. There is also a petting zoo for the children to enjoy.

Plan to spend several hours prior to the show to tour the exhibits and see all of the animals on display. There is a junior section of animals raised by teenagers all across Texas. They bring the animals they have raised in FFA (Future Farmers of America) to win prizes. There are cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, and horses for you to see.
