Let’s Take a Look at Golden Retrievers
52A Golden Moment!
Goldens
If you're searching for a dog that loves children and is very easy to care for, think of Golden Retrievers to the rescue. These guys are cool. They'll carry their own leash and walk themselves, following your children all the way to school and looking back at them several times as they head back home, leaving their young charges in their teachers' care until they get to take over again in the afternoon.
Here are other interesting tidbits about Golden Retrievers:
1) Not everyone knows this but Golden Retrievers were first bred so that they would be working dogs.
2) Known as being in the Sporting Group, Goldens need lots of exercise as they are known as high energy dogs. Those under three years of age have the highest energy levels -that pup stage!
3) These pets being active, they use their senses a great deal which means they are excellent at being gumshoes - great rescuers. However, at a disadvantage is the fact they need to continually keep busy or they could begin eating your rug threads J So have chew toys around.
4) Golden Retrievers can make excellent service dogs, helping the blind and handicapped and emotionally impaired, etc. But some do have temperaments, just as any breed does. So take time to make sure the individual dog meets your family needs, especially with young children around.
5) Goldens on the average are classified as large dogs, weighing roughly between 55 and 75 pounds. Their height places them at about 23 inches standing tall, measuring from the shoulders down.
6) These dogs have large, wide skulls and hence more brain power than the average dog.
7) Goldens can be a deep yellowish-gold color to a much lighter yellow-gold color, nearly white in fact.
8) These pets love to dig, so hide shoveling (like for fence work) and gardening activities from them.
9) These large guys need to eat a lot, so make sure in advance that your family budget slows for a good amount of healthy dog food for your Golden.
10) Especially during warm summer months, you want to keep your dog food supply fresh. So invest in some good quality dog food storage containers.
11) Find (or rescue) a Golden Retriever and make many people - and dogs - happy. Search Golden Retriever Rescue groups online and off for more details and program in your area.
12) If you have young children, take care around these large animals who can accidentally knock over smaller folks with a simple happy wag.
13) Look into training as early on as possible. These dogs can pull arms - and bodies - on walks and knock adults over by jumping on them. So train them early on to have good behaviors.
14) Don't neglect good grooming habits either. Seek a pet store or vet for tips and tools of the trade.
