Letter to the Editor
60How far will you go for "free" stuff?
Below is a short letter I wrote to the editor of a magazine. Once a month they would choose their favorite letter and the winner would win some nice musical equipment to add to his/her collection. So, here was my vain attempt. I didn't win but felt my letter was worth sharing. It's basically a fun play on the real name brands of various musical equipment. The words in bold are the actual name brands. I tried to weave the words in bold into a bit of a "tall tale". I had fun and hope you'll enjoy this. Would you go this far to get something nice for free? ( }:^D)
Here's the letter:

I’ve always been somewhat of a gear geek or tech-junkie when it comes to my music. So, each year, whenever the wife and the funds are in agreement, I try to purchase some new gadget or gizmo to add to my collection- be it a guitar, effects pedals or hand-held audio workstations.
No surprise, your magazine has quickly become my “inside source” on new gear with unbiased, player-tested reviews, side-by-side product feature comparisons and yes, even the advertisements, which keep me abreast of what’s new and available like no other source can do. Were it not for G.P., I might not have known that I could purchase such items as volume and tuner knobs in the shapes of skulls, an amplifier that resembles a pig’s nose or a guitar that dons the coveted, “sliced-cheese” look.
In addition to a brief lesson in shapes and appearances, you’ve also taught me a thing or two about the “spirit” world with the Ghost pickup system and “The Soul of Valves” Bugera amplifiers. You’ve even helped fuel religious fervor with a Voodoo Lab and some Holy Fire then introduced me to a Reverend to show that the Love Pedal can make all the difference.
Not to leave out the world of myth and magic- you taught me about the Banshee who came by way of Rocktron. Then, you thrilled me with the heroics of Hercules on which the guitar world stands. You told the tale of Samson, whose recordedSaga lives on through Infinity, echoing from aloft the peaks of Olympus, through the forests of Eastwood and beyond to the Sweetwater where the Seagull rides the currents.
With Talking Tabs and a Shout Factory, you’ve helped form a Visual Sound that I can tune and Zoom into. Thanks to you GP, the Mighty Bright, Fretlight you’ve shown continues to guide me along on my musical quest with a Brazen certainty that this “thing” I have for new gear and MusicToyz is all part of the Guitar Fetish that unites each of us with a common brotherhood, complete with Reunion Blues.
So, as our Pocket Rockit makes Landfall on this journey toward finding Ultrasound, we swear by our HotHand to be Truetone while our music rides the PlanetWaves. Whether we’re Pedal Geeks, Digitechs, or even Pigtronics, I think I speak for us all that we will be deFenders of Fulltone and not take a Backbeat to anyone! Once a Guitar Player, forever a Guitar Player, of this I am Shure!

Wow, you can really tell how much effort was put into this :) Gotta love letters to the editor, especially to win free things!
Well I don't know why you didn't win-- that was really a well done, clever letter. Thanks for sharing it with us here.
