Letters from Home
I make a hole in the sand my bed
But sleep won't come for me
I taste the grit in my mouth
Always imagining your sweet kiss
I'm fighting just to see you again
Too many of my men have fallen
I know who they are leaving behind
I can't do that to you
I received your letter today
Letters from home are what we live for
I wiped away tears before it was opened
I kiss the pages and breathe in deep
My comrades don't say anything
There is no shame in crying
We all feel the same
When we get our letters from home
I can't believe our little girl is three months
Kiss her and hug her and tell her about me
I'm so sorry I couldn't be there with you
And I'm sorry I can't be there now
I taped the picture you sent in my helmet
My men smiled and shared theirs
It's nice to know there is new life back home
When all we witness is death here
I have to go now; I hope to be home soon
Pray for us and stay strong my brave one
I love you, I love you, I love you

very good hub thanks
Thank you, LA and Lgali. It is sad. I couldn't imagine what I would do in your friend's situation, LA.
That is beautiful and so thoughtful wow that touched my heart. :)
Oh, thank you AEvans; what a nice compliment!
My favorite line: I make a hole in the sand my bed. Sad, but seet too, kudos.
Thank you, Randy.
so heart touching
Thank you for the comment, Umna
Great Poem...shows the complications of what it is like to serve so far away...in a war.
Thank you for this and being inspired to write it down.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for the nice comment. I think most are too caught up in the controversies of the war that they forget there are people involved; people with families, people with emotions.
Again, thank you!

How sad and beautiful... It makes me think of my friends hubby. He is in iraq and she is at home with their kids. Such a sad thing being separated like that.
