Leukorrhea is a condition marked by a white or yellow discharge from the vagina. It is common during the reproductive years and during pregnancy. The discharge varies with a woman's menstrual cycle as her hormone levels change.

Leukorrhea may or may not indicate a presence of infection and it is not usually accompanied by any symptoms, but if an unusual change occurs like a change in consistency and color, it may be a sign of a vaginal or uterine infection, a tumor, or other gynecological disorders. It is always wise to consult a reliable doctor to know what is causing the unusual discharge.

  • Candidiasis - this infection produces severe itching and an odorless discharge resembling cottage cheese. One of the best methods of treatment is the application of gentian violet combined with vaginal suppositories of mycostatin.

b. Sometimes it is caused by inflammation of the cervix or even a vaginal tumor.
