I am ready to upgrade my compact binoculars and this is what I am considering.
I love compact for most of my travels, this has the features I want and need plus it is a bit more heavy duty than the compacts I use now. I read about Leupold in this review Five Best Binoculars. And when I went to the main Leupold corporate site I was duly impressed.
They are incredibly helpful, full of information and very user friendly at Leupold's website. It was simple to compare different models and sizes, so I feel like I already have had my hands on them. I have tried other Leupold binoculars while birding with other people but they had much larger models like 10x50 and those are hard for me to hold. Nonetheless, I appreciated their optical quality and told myself to come back and look at Leupold soon.

Leupold Gold Ring Binoculars 10x32
Leupold Katmai Compact Binoculars are reviewed above, so you know I have a preference for compacts. These are 10X32. So they are a little larger, weigh a little more and have more magnification and more field of vision than the compacts do.
Remember what the numbers mean? The 10X means you see the object 10 times the size it is. The 32 means the size of the lens opening, 32 mm. You can see more about what these numbers mean here.
Gold Ring BinocularsYES. Made in America. I have heard birders discussing how that is a genuine sales feature because so many binoculars are made in in Europe. I guess there is a bit of pride in having good optics here too.
What are users saying about them? Some excerpts from user reviews:
- After my research, I was down to Leica, Swarovski or Leupold Gold Ring.
- These have excellent clear image and good range and depth of field
- These are cheaper than the others in terms of money not quality.
- I got great clarity, good contrast, easy focusing and low-light use.
- I got what I wanted and more. Leupold is mine now!
I believe these Leupolds are a good buy. Actually any Leupold binoculars are worthwhile!worth your cash and time. Smaller and lighter than the popular size 10x42 binoculars. It becomes a matter of personal preference when it comes down to making this kind of choice between all excellent quality binoculars. 10x32 is a nice compromise size.

Leupold 100 Years
American optical engineering at its best for 100 years. In Portland Oregan in 1907 an immigrant by the name of Fred Leupold set up a one-man shop to repair surveying equipment.
Soon his brother -in-law Adam Voelpel joined him with this work.
After a while John Cyprian Stevens, inventor, became the third member of the team and they laid the foundation for a successful optics company which has continued to keep pace with the needs and engineering developments of our times.
I love this awesome story.
In 1949, Fred Leupold applied what he learned while manufacturing military optics in World War II.
His company became the first one to "purge" the interior of the scopes and fill it with nitrogen to completely eliminate fogging from the inside.
Soon Leupold's fog proof and weather-proofed optical instruments were sportsmen's favorites.
The same principles are applied to manufacturing binoculars today. All Leupold models are waterproof and fog proof and all of them have a lifetime warranty.
