And the United States is NOT a democracy

Congratulations, my fellow Americans.  The United States government now has more debt than the entire annual gross domestic product of the entire world combined.

I was asked to give Obama a chance.  When I declared that he is a socialist and was going to bankrupt America, I was told that I was just plain unfair.  With the non-stimulus bill that is going to be law, we just mortgaged the future of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Many have dubbed the so-called stimulus bill the "porkulus" bill, and rightfully so.  Even the Congressional Budget Office has declared that the stimulus spending effects on job growth will be miniscule.

With so many business concerns being taken over or even funded by the government, I have actually seen some fools cheer.  Just this weekend, I was part of an internet discussion.  One poor, misguided soul named Hannah was heralding the end of capitalism with the non-stimulus bill.  She said, "Hurray! The end of capitalism! Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains! Off with the chains of capitalism and then we will have real freedom."

The sad thing is that she meant it.  She declared that the election of Barack Hussein Obama was a mandate for a change of the type of government, saying that those who cleave to the Constitution are "outmoded".  Of course there was the obligatory liberal twaddle of blaming George Bush for war spending and any other leftist nonsense she could muster with her diminished thought processing ability.

To the concept of blaming Bush for war spending and the so called mandate I said, "The "war debt" combined for the past decade is dwarfed by the liberal spending of the non-stimulus spending about to hit. Do you consider the Constitution to be "outmoded"? If that founding document is outmoded, then I will be happy to be considered such, as well."

Apparently, to those who must have failed civics class in school, if you do not support democracy, then you are an imbecile.  I am told that accepting Obama's policies are merely the end result of democracy in action, regardless of the Constitution or the evils of socialism.

I want to make this point clear.  The United States is not now nor has it ever has been a democracy.  This nation is a representative republic.  My five year old is learning to recite The Pledge of Allegiance, which has the phrase "...and to the republic for which it stands".  I shall ensure that he understands what that means.  Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution states "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government".  There is a huge difference between a republic and a democracy.  In reading the notes on the Constitutional Convention of 1787, it is clear that the founding fathers abhorred democracy.

It is impossible to be a true patriot and be a liberal at the same time.  Ironically, I find that liberals often defend their characterizations of the Bush/Reagan/Bush era as patriotic.  I personally have a lot of criticism for the Bushes as well as some of Reagan's policies.  However, my criticisms are based upon an established standard rather than irrational, erroneous representations of an impossible Utopian society.  This one woman actually called herself a "liberal patriot".  One can not be a patriot and be antithetical to the very foundation of your nation and its core values.

I find it ironic that many liberals bash capitalism, big business, and the quest for profit while at the same time laud socialism, big government, and the quest for monetary control over its subjects.  With all of its inherent flaws, mainly because of the sinful nature of man, capitalism is the best system of economics for all of mankind.

Capitalism has brought this nation from being a developing nation to being an economic powerhouse in the world.  It has caused a fraction of the world's population to be the innovators in business and modern society.  We have developed technology faster and advanced science further than any other nation on the planet as a result of pursuing financial gain as a reward.

No other nation on earth is more generous to charitable organizations, builds more hospitals, has built a better health care system, brought wealth to more people, or financed the spread of the Gospel more than the United States.  All of this was made possible by the positive benefits of capitalism.

The national debt with which we are now saddled as well as the increasingly unconstitutional spending and governmental control now threaten to totally destroy the greatest republic in human history.  Watch for resistance movements emerge as more and more states rediscover the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

A very informative hub. I am not sure I agree with you nor do I disagree at this time. I do have a suggestion for you if it's OK. I realized that the word "republic" was used to describe the US a long time ago. How about writing a hub showing the differences and similarities between a democracy and a republic.

Excellent information and I totally agree with you on the Hub.  The irony is that so many people do not understand the differences between a true democracy and a representative republic.  The fact of the matter is a true democracy, much like socialism, works or looks great on paper but doesn't work well in reality.

As for the woman who says our Constitution is outmoded...she'd certainly feel differently if her right to free speech was removed, not to mention all the other freedoms she enjoys because of our Constitution and the wisdom of our founding fathers.

The facts have been well proven. We have a representative republic (which we self describe as democracy, and is a form of it) and it is the most successful form of govt.

You have been listening to fox news too much Troy. Both dems and repubs were in on the Basil 2 off balance sheet banking fiasco. Both parties are controlled by the international bankers who really run things. The banks are still in control, and instead of being busted up and the assets sold, the fascist government will keep them private if possible, and will soak the taxpayer to pay for the bad debt on the books.

You watch, that is the most likely scenario. Read my new hub about international bankers. When it came to implimenting the international banking idea, Phil Gramm was at the lead. Those coverning up the derivative investigations were Greenspan and Rubin. A pub and a dem.

Also read my hub about Bush legacy. You need to understand that there are conservatives, like Pat Buchanan, and neocons like Palin and Jeb Bush. The conservatives believe in leaving Russia alone, in using resources wisely. The necons want to take over the world, and they want to steal Iraq oil and harass Russia. If you want ww3 then be a neocon. If you want to be a historic conservative you need to listen to Pat Buchanan, not fox unnews.

Dude, I almost NEVER listen to Fox News. As long as we are in Iraq, have conquered that nation, occupy it, and have dumped billions of dollars into their rebuilding and economy, I have no problem whatsoever with taking their oil. I opposed the war in Iraq, by the way. However, I do believe that whether we should have gone into Iraq or not is a moot point, since we are there. It is what it is and we need to deal with it as such.

I do not consider most Republicans to be conservatives. I DO listen to Buchanan from time to time. As well as Ron Paul a whole lot.

Troy I appreciate that you don't listen to Fox News. But Troy, you still don't get it. The reason we went into Iraq was for the oil. Look at wikipedia and look at the subjects "PNAC" and "Leo Strauss" if you want to understand what the neocons really are. They were a godless group (I believe in separation of church and state but not in leaders with money as their god), and PNAC wanted the oil in Iraq prior to the Bush presidency. Not only that, they wanted a pearl harbor type event and wrote about it on their website in 2000, one full year before 9/11.

You don't have to believe in the 9/11 conspiracy (although I do) to know that they wanted that oil in Iraq. Read my hubs and you will see that this is exactly what they wanted. You have to read alternative news if you want any chance of understanding. Ron Paul is a good start. Jesse Ventura believes that the explosives that brought down WTC (three towers including one not hit by a plane) were the same sort of explosives used to bring down old Las Vegas casinos. Read his book. Jesse was a Navy seal who worked with explosives and understands them. Even Fema said the jet fuel burned only for a few minutes, not enough time to heat the towers.

Anyway, the stated intent of PNAC was to take over the world, including middle east oil, and also to take advantage of a weakened Russia. Only problem they didn't reckon with. We are weak. As one guy on CNBC said, the Chinese make things and we sell each other insurance. That is why we are afraid to say no to Citibank when they want to fleece taxpayers for billions and billions. This will end badly.

I believe there are patriotic liberals and conservatives and libertarians. I do not believe there are patriotic neocons.

Actually, I DO get it... more than you think. And I disagree with the 9/11 conspiracy theories. Knowing fire behavior (my degree is in fire protection, I am a trained arson investigator, and worked in the fire service for years) and building construction, I believe that some of the conspiracy theories are full of conjecture and bunk. I am not going into great detail since I don't want to engage in yet another futile discussion with conspiracy theorists and take the hub off track.

That being said, I agree that we are being fleeced royally. I am very much libertarian/classic liberal in my views. Classic liberalism bears no resemblance to the current reference of liberalism, however.

I do understand neocons all to well and am not very fond of them.

troy - great hub. To me, there are two camps, and two only. You either stand by our Constitution and a free-market system, or you bow to big brother. The labels of democrat and republican are fast becoming irrelevant. Especially when so many so-called conservatives bow in Obama's direction. Loved your quote "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government". So few people get that these days. And it doesn't mean "Republican" as defined by some of the GOP.

I meet very few Ron Paul fans - nice to meet you!

Congratulations on a great article. I admit I'm not as well informed and up to date on this subject, but it doesn't take a genious to see what's happening. Very plainly put.
