Here's a Life Lesson for ya!..... Maybe?
56Sandy's Olds 442
Somepeople I will never forget!
When I was a kid it was not unusual to wake up and find we had house guests.. Some stayed overnight, some much longer.
My parents had a friend Harley who, as well as I can remember, had some sort of prison ministry. He often had men and women he would take in after they were released from minor infractions. Some of these folks ended up at our house. Some stayed over night. Some a lot longer. It was not unusual to wake up and find a houseful of "guests" in our tiny home. It was an incredible year for me.
This is the story of one such young woman..
One
day I came home from school and noticed a large collection of woman's clothing hanging on a rod
in the basement. Over-the-top flamboyant clothes.. lots of leopard
prints, gold, sparkly clothes. We had a house guest that wasn't leaving
anytime soon. Her name was Sandra. I was about 14 and this was the big
sister I had always wanted.. I have no idea how old she was, Just having her around seemed like an adventure!
She mostly kept to herself. However, one day she asked me if I wanted to go
out for an ice cream cone... OMG! Yes!! She drove an Oldsmobile 442 with an 8-track tape player~~
soooooo cool! It was maroon and loud and fast! It's amazing to remember how important this made me feel.
So we drove to the
Baskin-Robbins, with The Hollies playing "All I need is the air that I
breathe..." We are eating our cones and she says.......
Kiddo... I have a life lesson for you.......... NEVER FORGET IT!
"Your wardrobe should never clash with the color of your car."
WOW!! **blink** WOW!
Hers did not clash. In-fact, they enhanced it.
Never has one statement impacted me the way this one did. I have never forgotten it. I have passed this valuable advice on to many others. Every time I hear this song I think of her, of that day, of that advice.
Thank you Sandy!
My current car is red. Perfect!
The last we heard about her, she was back in jail. Sad.
Wonder what happened to the car?

I'm glad you are smiling! Now, match your car color to your clothes and life will be perfect! Ok, so maybe not so much.. but we can try!
I stole her car and took it to mexico
Gooollldentooooad... it was you.. don't suppose you still have it? Trade ya for a beer?
nice personal hub
Lgali,if you see her car around, call me, we'll go for a ride!
Great hub, great story, interesting lesson and totally kick a** car!! :)
Lgali - Thank you
Janetta - thank you too
It really was a hot car and the lesson she gave me.. I'll bet she never dreamed I'd hang on to it and end up with it here, now. crazy.!!!
Oh my goodness, you mistook Air Supply for CSNY!? Dave, Steve, Graham, and Neil may never forgive you, but Air Supply likely is flattered!
Ah heck, I'd listen to Air Supply for a ride in that car!
Tom it's neither. It was the Hollies.. rats, I can't believe I did that.. You're the first one to point out my faux pas.. (thanks a lot).. and I would let you listen to Air supply for a ride in that car again!!
Well if it's the Hollies, then I guess Graham would be okay with it, and the association with CSNY makes more sense. I'd listen to The Archies for a chance to drive it!
Sugar oh honey honey...Great now it's stuck in my head! If I had that car I would drive over to get you and we could go out for ice cream cones.. ah- 8-track tape players.. they were so hi-tech! Thank you Tom!
What a great car. My friend had an 87 442 in the late 90's and it was a lot of fun. But, the older ones looked even better. I had a 68 Camaro in high school but, eventually had to sell it. It was a very sad day. But, I got to take my kids to Disney World with the money.
My Camaro was Metallic Blue but, I doubt I always matched. My current car is silver. so I expect most things I wear match perfectly fine.
Jim - those Camaros are hot cars, Sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do, but the cars, and more the memories made in/with :) those cars is what stays with us always.. Then the joy of the memories of DisneyLand gets to be with you, too. It is easier to match your clothes with silver.. well done!
Great story and I love the writing style!
Nutuba! Many thanks! It's so cool to share these memories with my new "family"..thank you for being a part of it!
Candie, I seem to have missed so many of your hubs! And what's with the new red riding hood avatar? :)
Hey FP, it was to go with Tom Cornett's hub on the hubber family reunion. He name me to match with his sister Velvet, so I picked a girl in velvet. I'll change it back later.. it's a great hub, check it out, He's gonna add to it later. So does your car/wardrobe match?
Only if I dress in boring inderminate colours...sigh.
FP - boring you are not, so clash away!! (no not CRASH away).. just sayin'....
Er...that was 'indeterminate'...I do know how to spell! :P
Well, I read it right then.. as long as it's not "patchwork", then that goes with nothing you own. Indeterminate can also mean lots of rust and to that I say "Anything goes"!!
Hehe...I love rust...the colour!
Oh, I do too!! I've really gotten to wearing more of it and chocolate the last 2 years! It's a very versatile and forgiving color! Makes me look a little tanner and goes with everything!. Do you know I adore your friendship here? (I know gush!) but I do! Thank you for all your support and hugs!
I think it clashes horribly with my unfortunately pinkish face, but what the heck! :P And it's been great to meet you here Candie...you sound like a girl after my own heart! Hugs to you too! :)
Which area of India are you in?
Don't know how I missed this
CindyLou!! This was one of the first ones I did! Wow, FP just found it too! How ya been? And more to the point, as Sandy would want to know, does your wardrobe match your car/bicycle/rollerskates/skateboard?
I'm in a city called Pune in the western part of the country...heard of it?
No, but I'll look google it. I'd love you to write about it, I love to see what my friends see every day.. It's like traveling without the shots and passport visas!
What is Shaniwar Wada? It looks like a garden or palace? it's huge!
Ahh...so we take the pain while you gain, huh? :P
No, I shall do a cyber visit.. Frankly, low funds right now, so a virtual "visitor that eats all your food and sleeps till noon" is all I can do..
Ok, let me make up the cyber couch for you then!
Hey, hey, Candie V! Loved it! My first thought was, "well, with you walking around in that Little Red Riding Hood outfit no wonder every one stuck around! Very entertaining and, if I may say so, very true!
FP, I'm packing my cyber toothbrush!
Christoph!!! If you see the car, call me ASAP, and I'll take you out for a little something special!!!
What do you call that color? It's kind of a dark red...burgundy maybe? I gotta know so I can get it for you and collect my prize! Past my bedtime so I'll work on it tomorrow. Night.
Maroon with metalic flake in it.. You get me that car and you can collect your prize!
Candie, I really want to read this, but I'm starting to zone out, and will probably not remember this tomorrow. REmind me, would you?????
LM - I hope you had a great birthday.. I did my best humming for you! I forgot to mention I totally rocked playing my triangle with the humming! I'll remind you later! Get some rest from your injury.. those 'road rashes' hurt like crazy! Think of it as "total body exfolliation" and it'll hurt a little less! (vitamin E capsules rock with this, as does aloe vera) just a hint for your recovery!
Glad she did not lead you up the wrong path, and you end up in jail too....... best to buy a car that matches any clothes, lots of silver cars around here....
Brenda - Lots of silver here, too, with second being white or red.. Better resale value, but my theory is silver or white get less speeding tickets. If she would have stayed longer that could have been an issue, but she was only around for 2 or 3 months.. Man she was pretty!
Everyone will tell you I am very inquisitive..... Did you often have people staying, where they all really interesting characters.... How long ago was it ....... I wonder where she is now????????
Brenda - that's ok! Yeah we did. One guy stayed for 3 months, then went and got his wife and 2 babies, they stayed for 6 months. I know where they are, what they're doing. I really loved them! There was one woman who stayed for 2 months, no idea how old she was, but she looked A LOT older than she was, kinda nuts. Had to have her taken away. But Sandy, this was around 1973/4. No idea what ever happened to her. I'm sure she found some rich guy to take care of her, or more forgery and ended up for years in prison.. Thank you for asking! I really don't mind.
lol, god forbid that your clothes clash with the color of a car. I love it!
God forbid!! I'm very careful!! LOL!!
