Life With a Diabetic Wife

Diabetes can and does cause other medical situations.It has been like a roller -coaster ride in our lives.

When we were first married my wife was very healthy.No problems what-so-ever.One key to all that though was her father and mother were diabetics.We were told to keep an eye on her health.

When she gave birth to our first child,everything went fine.That all changed when the second pregnancy came;she had gestational diabetes.This made Eric{our middle boy}abnormally large as you can see in the picture at top.He was one month early,and weighed ten pounds and eight ounces.

Eric is not diabetic.I hope he never is.He has always been a large boy.The second picture is a Christmas program he was in at church.He is the large boy.I remember three of the other boys there were a bit older than him.

As you can see from the bottom picture,he is still big.

My wife struggled with the diabetic diet at first.It is very hard to not eat what you want.She does real well with it now.

Your diet is very important when you are a diabetic;your health depends on it.

There are many other medical problems that have occured to my wife because of diabetes.

First came thyroid problems.Next in line was congestive heart failure and she had blocked arteries.She had to have surgery to drain the fluid from around her heart and opened her arteries.She has to take medication for the thyroid and also for her heart.

Lastly,her kidneys have been shutting down but through prayer,a good Doctor,and medication she is doing good!

I worry about her health every day.

It is very important if you are a diabetic to test your blood sugar several times a day.That is the only way you will keep your health under control!
