A Problem Worldwide?

Pornography is not a new concept, it has been around for centuries. Images of carnal ventures were seen in ancient Kama Sutra texts. The Kama Sutra was thee guide for couples to live by. The intention was very different from what we see scattered throughout the internet today.

People say it is an addiction, but addiction is a very vague term. A term that can be applied to anything in life, including life itself. People crave different things, though it is true an addiction to life is not going to be life threatening. Addictions to nicotine, alcohol, gambling, and pornography are the easiest targets to attack for obvious reasons.

When an addiction begins to consume our lives then there is a problem. The only thing I am wondering is when should people begin to pry into someone's personal life and, if so are they violating the privacy of those they are spying on. The other problem I am having is when you get a first time offender, should they really serve time in jail? If their problem is an addiction, shouldn't we start sending our violators somewhere to get help rather than incarcerating them? Repeat offenders are understandably a different story. However, if they were arrested for a first time offense and imprisoned immediately, isn't it possible we may have failed them?

I just recently read an article talking about shyness and according to what I read, shyness is increasing every year. The other thing popping into my mind is the problems with self confidence and our images. We have an obsession within our society to criticize people about their flaws. Ask any plastic surgeon and they will tell you they are making more and more money every year. This is a sure sign of problems within our society.

Isn't it just possible that the real problem with pornography stems from the way people are being treated in our society? We are talking about people that have real psychological issues. We do not hear about people like Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, or even Hugh Hefner having problems with an addiction to pornography. It is rather interesting that most people attached to an addiction to pornography are low to middle class men, between the ages of 30 and 50.

This is a clear signal that pornography is not the problem and we need to provide helpful solutions without destroying an innocent man's reputation.
