Life's Small Pleasures
74Life's Simple Pleasures
There are small things in life that just seem so nice! Though we often take them for granted, you know they're there, and making you feel good. These are things that we just... need. Things that make your day a little bit better.
1. Those Days When You're Happy for No Good Reason
Granted, these days are great already, but they just amplify the good, and minimize the bad. Such as when you spill your drink all over your food at lunch. Normally, you would be SO pissed. But you're not. You just think, "Well, at least it didn't get on me," or "At least there are free refills." Nothing can get you down, not even if you have to sit next to some fat guy on a city bus. Maybe Rosie O'Donnel, but she can screw up anyone's day. ANYONE'S. Not only does it minimize the bad stuff, the good stuff is just that much better. You find a $1 bill, and you're as happy as if it were $5. I love these days.
2. Sitting and Watching a TV Show
If you're too damn busy to sit and watch TV often, or you just don't, this can make a day good. The day I wrote this, my day kind of sucked. I was just too tired to do anything. So, I plunked my ass down, and watched The Simpsons. Boy, I felt good afterward. Still worn out, but at least I wasn't in such a bad mood. So sit down, grab a drink, and spend half an hour of your day doin' what? Jack squat, that's what.
3. Waking Up Refreshed
I dunno about you, but I hate waking up and being too tired to drag my sorry pajamaed ass out of bed. That's why I like when my eyes will easiliy open, and I can stand up without having to sit down on the edge of my bed again. I like it when I don't have to hit the snooze button at all, and I can just reset the alarm. It's so nice! I always have enough energy to get through the day, and it's just PERFECT.
4. Finishing a Book
The satisfaction of an ending. Or a cliff hanger that will start you on the next book. That just satisfies the hell out of the obsessive compulsive freak inside of me. Not only because I FINALLY FINISHED THAT SON OF A MOTHER, but because I CAN READ ANOTHER BOOK WITH A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PLOT. It's just... nice.
5. Your Favorite Song
This just makes it all worth it; when my favorite, or one I like, song comes on the radio. When I'm driving somewhere, and a song I like comes on the air, I sing. I don't care who is in the car with me, I don't care how much of a headache they have, I don't even care if I can't sing it for half of a rat's small intestine, I will sing. And you will beware. But I'm so happy, it sounds good. Or maybe I can't hear it over the music because it's as loud as a rocket launch.
6. Beating a Game
Maybe I'm just a nerd - no wait. I am a nerd. Well, beating a game can make my day great no matter how much it seemed God was screwing me over, and I sure hope you get this feeling too. That is, if you play videogames. If you don't, get yourself a Wii, Gameboy, XBox 360, whatever, get yourself one. This can make me feel INCREDIBLE. I love it. I feel completely unstoppable and invincible. I could FLY. I could probably even kick Bruce Lee's ass (that's right you Chuck Norris fans, Bruce Lee. The BEST). Or I could have my ass handed to me, but I would FEEL like I won. That's the key.
7. Lazy Days After A Long Week
Oh GOD I love these kinds of days. Wake up at 10:00 A.M., lay in bed 'til 11. Get on the computer, check a few things, walk into the kitchen, decide to wait another hour before lunch, plop your ass in a chair and read the comics. Then play some games, eat lunch, and piddle around some more. So nice!
8. Learning Something New
"Did you know that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and within an hour of each other?"
"Did you know that 1 in every 200 men in Europe and Asia is related to Ghengis Khan?"
"Did you know that there are more cells in your body than stars in our galaxy?"
Gotta love this useless trivia. Admit it. You want to go spout it off to someone right now. And make yourself feel superior (if only in a small way) to someone else.
Well, I'll come up with another list soon. Don't you worry. Then again, I have a Wii, so I may not be bored again anytime soon...
