1. Take all the essential supplies
Hiking can sometimes be very dangerous if you have chosen an extremely cold or moist area for your trip. The backpack that you take on your trip should be light but it should also contain all the essential supplies that you might need on your trip.
2. Make a proper list of all the items
Before keeping anything in your backpack, you must make a list of all the items that you might need on that trip. If you are going in a group then each member can carry some of the items that all the members can use. This will help you in diving responsibilities and would also reduce the burden on one person only.
3. Sleeping bag
Your sleeping bag is the most essential thing that you would surely need. These days most of the sleeping bags come in separate cases which you can easily carry with your backpack.
4. Clothes
As you are going on a nature excursion, you should be ready to face any kind of weather during any part of the day. Always carry two pair of shoes, a raincoat, gloves, warn clothes and extra shirts, blankets, inners and jeans. Try to wear comfortable clothes as they would make walking and climbing on rough terrains, easier.
5. Food items and cooking utensils
Always store your fuel away from the food item and make sure that all the utensils are packed properly so that no hard or sharp edge can come out of the bag. Try to take preserved food items so that they can not be destroyed easily.
6. Tents and tarps
If you are taking your own tent then you can either carry it in the separate compartment of your backpack that is meant for tents, or you can even carry them in waterproof stuff sacks.
7. Medicines and personal items
For lightweight backpacking you can pack your personal items like sunscreen lotions, mosquito repent cream, medicines, face wash and other items where ever they can fit.
