One of my 1st pictures at my new home

Hi my name is Lillie. I am excited to share my story with you. It starts out pretty sad and ends wonderful!!!

One day I was taken to a scary animal shelter. Let me tell you, I didn't know what was going on. What did I do wrong? The man that brought me in didn't say anything at all. No goodbyes, no hugs or love. Life was not good for me at that time. Due to my actions at times you can tell I was abused. I was put into a cold cement holding cell and no one around to comfort me. Shaking from all of the loud barking and not knowing what was happening.

The same day I was taken to the shelter a lady named Kathleen saw me. I had no idea she was coming back for me!!!!! Of course she had to wait until I could become available for adoption. While waiting I got Kennel Cough. So unfair, I am a very sweet and friendly girl. Why was this happening?

Then one day Kathleen came for me!!!! She is the sweetest kindest person I have ever met. She rescues dogs like me, gets them healthy and ready for new homes. Right away she took me to the vet to be treated for my Kennel Cough. She got all of my shots and over time she got me fixed. I was still afraid. What was going on? All of the new people and things going on.

The great thing is she made me a part of her family and loved me dearly. Over the next few months she was looking for someone to care for me. Kathleen was very careful about who would take me.

One day her vet called and told her that a family was looking for a little dog. She called and spoke with the family. Kathleen decided that they can meet me and see what kind of family they were. We went to their house. Now Kathleen was a bit nervous that they had a 17 yr old German Shepherd Huskey and a 9 yr old daughter. I am only 9 lbs. Would the big dog eat me? Would the little girl torment me and scare me even more?? Something told her to go ahead with the meeting.

That is the day that I will never forget.

I was a bit shy at first. When I got there I ran around the big yard sniffing everything. I met Mary (my new mom), Brian (my new dad), Angel (my 9 yr old new sis) and Coko (my 17 yr old new sis).

We went in the house for a few hours to check out my new home. Coko was so gentle with me. Angel was very sweet and patient. I warmed up to her right away. I had no idea that this family was going to soon be my dream come true, my forever home!!

A new beginning...

On 6/29/09 I became part of my new family. Kathleen brought me to my new home. She cried so hard as she drove away looking back at my new mommy holding me. At first I didn't know what to think. I clung to Mary for the first week. She made me feel safe. Angel was very disappointed at first because I wasn't cuddling with her. She thought I didn't like her. That's just not true. We are best friends now and always together. I love her so much. When Angel is at school mommy will tease me and say, "Where's Angel?". I look for her everywhere!! When she comes home from school we play hide n go seek. I go nuts when I find her because I am so happy to see her.

All this for me?

You won't believe all of the new toys, clothes, bedding and more that I have now. Shhhh...I dress better than they do. HeHeHe :)

I am just amazed at the new things I am seeing and doing. We go to the park all of the time. I get to run in the baseball field. We have a blast. I just love my new home. It's so much fun being a part of this family. I get to go in the car all of the time. We go to the pet stores and I get to walk around. They buy me something everytime :) I even have a Halloween costume.

One day we went to the park in Ellwood and played hide n go seek. Someone would hide and call my name while I looked for them. It was so much fun.

We also went camping this summer. I loved it. They told me so many times that I was a good girl for not barking at all the different people. I got to play on the beach and watch the ducks. It was awesome!!!

Where did Coko go?

One day we were having a great time. Angel had a sleepover and everyone was paying a lot of attention to me and Coko. Taking lots of pictures and videos.

I noticed Coko wasn't feeling well. They had to carry her outside to go potty with a towel under her belly. For some reason Mommy and Daddy seemed a bit worried and down. The next day I watched her slowly walk all around the yard and then struggle to get in the truck. I was thinking, "Where are they going? Why can't I go?". A few hours later they came home without Coko. I knew something was wrong. Mary was crying for days. Everytime I went outside I looked for Coko and she was gone. The house is quiet and different without her. I miss her a lot. She was a great big dog sis to me. Always kind and patient with me.

At first I didn't know what to do because everyone was so sad.  I would just curl up on their lap and comfort them.  I hear them say I am an angel sent from God and they never thought they would ever find a dog that they could love like they did Coko.  Well I love them too just like Coko loved them!!!

Bless you what a heartwarming tale. Coko looks a sweet dog. Parting with these little treasures is so hard but at least you did right by her. Here is a virtual hug.
