Do you enjoy sweet and fruity liqueurs? Limoncello is a delicious Italian liqueur that is now enjoyed in many countries around the world. It is available in many liquor stores, as well as on the menu of many restaurants, such as Cucina D'Angelo in Boca Raton, FL.
True Limoncello connoisseurs say that the best Limoncello is that that you make yourself. Fortunately, it is easy to make your own Limoncello liqueur. All you need is a few simple ingredients and some patience, because it does have to sit for a while before it is ready to enjoy. It is worth the wait, though!
How to Make Limoncello
With just four ingredients required, anyone can make and enjoy homemade Limoncello.
Ingredients:
- 20 large Lemons
- 2 bottles of Grain Alcohol or Vodka (750 ml)
- 6 cups Sugar
- 6 cups Water
Directions:
Peel the lemons, being careful to remove only the yellow rinds. Leave the flesh of the fruit intact. Place the lemon rinds in a large jar that has a tight fitting lid, and pour in both bottles of grain alcohol or vodka. Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for between 10 days and three weeks.
The next step is to create a simple syrup from the sugar and water. Simply boil the water, add the sugar, and stir until it is dissolved. Allow the concoction to cool to room temperature, and then add it to the lemon rind and alcohol mixture. Seal the container again, and allow it to sit for 7 days.
Finally, your Limoncello is ready to enjoy! Strain the lemon zest, place in a bottle, and you're ready to enjoy a terrific and refreshing drink. Store in the refrigerator or freezer, and serve cold for the best flavor.
