It may be different for each company. It’s not like a taxi that has a meter or zones that it must charge according to preset prices. Limousine companies have the luxury to charge as they see fit for various services, wait time, cell phone usage, and pick-up schedule and so on.
Let’s look at various rate plans that limousine companies offer.
A good example could be mileage charge and waiting time. This is when the company charges their limousine services per mile and by time commitment. Usually there is a minimum mileage charge that covers the first few miles and a price for any additional mile. There is also the second component of a wait time. This is mostly broken out by half hour intervals and does not include the stops that a drive must make en route.
The second rate plan is flat rates. Now companies that offer flat rates usually stipulate that charges are between airports only. For example, if you need a limo to Dulles International airport, it’ll be a certain price. Most limousine services have flat rates for various airports in your area. Don’t forget there is a waiting charge if the drive has to wait.
The final rate plan that any limousine service company offer is an hourly rate. These services charge an hourly rate with a minimum of a few hours. These services will allow you to be driven anywhere you desire as long as you understand that the time commitment the driver puts in will cost you money. Most limousine services don’t have a waiting time commitment for hourly rates as they offer the first 15 minutes of waiting free of charge.
So there you have it. Each rate plan caters to different needs, whether you need a lift to the airport or a sedan to drive you around town. Picking a limo based on rates should take into consideration the distance to your event, the time of day and the cost. Each company will be able to provide a rate given you have the right information to provide.
On a final note, just a tip for you to consider that may come helpful when you are going to price out limousine services for your local limousine. Don’t forget that limousine companies will charge a gratuity amount to all charges, these prices range from 5-20%. Secondly, in our economy, a fuel charge will be added as well to all charges.
