Lindsay Lohan Latest... Wearing Used Clothes!
64
The 22-year-old actress has become the face of Visa Swap, a pop-up shop of sorts happening this summer in London that will accept used high-end clothes from the public in return for Visa Swap points. Later on, people can return to trade their points in for others' second-hand items. Any of the clothing that fails to sell will be donated to TRAID, a British organization that raises money to support communities in developing countries by recycling clothing through its network of stores.
Lindsay will be appearing in a series of ads for the campaign dressed in vintage clothing. Supposedly, we'll see the shots sometime this month. She has been quoted to say: "The concept of swapping clothes, getting something for nothing and refreshing your wardrobe appeals to everyone."
The idea of clothes swapping, where you exchange the items you don't wear anymore - for whatever reason is gaining traction, in an effort to decrease the environmental impact of consumer waste and fast fashion.
Celebrities Eco-Endorsing
Environmental campaigning has changed beyond recognition now that Hollywood and its celebrity A-list are jumping on the bandwagon in the wake of the success of Al Gore's The Inconvenient Truth.
Although Hollywood is not the ideal bed fellow of the movement since many artists have faced numerous accusations of not practicing what they preach, Leo DeCaprio's response to all this criticism is perhaps a fair one, namely that the message is more important than the messenger. Notwithstanding, celebrities like Sting, Alicia Keys, Darryl Hannah, Simple Plan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and others are lending their star power to help improve the planet we live on even though their endorsements stem from various reasons and issues.
In our celebrity-obsessed society, "the Oprah effect" makes a big difference. VIP's word of mouth can have incredible results providing credibility and a public face. The added attention is able to influence consumer's behavior as well as generate profits. Just the notion that a star is using some green stuff or endorsing a Green campaign can make a great difference.
Did you know that...?
Finally, some eco-celebrity trivia:
- Woody Harrelson has requested that only all-natural makeup products be used during the shooting of his film, "Battle in Seattle."
- Alanis Morissette has invested in solar panels to heat her pool and owns a hybrid car
- Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), is vice chair of the Board of Conservation International (CI), on which he has served for more than ten years.
- California ‘Governator' Arnold Schwarzenegger has had his two Hummers adjusted to run on hydrogen and biofuel.
- Robert Redford is on the board of the Natural Resources Defense Council and has worked to advocate for environmental issues with both politicians and the public.
