Breaking Into the World Fashion Modeling

Lindy Kwock is a San Francisco model that is ready to share tips and experiences about her modeling career.

To begin with height is an important factor in high fashion/runway modeling. But if you're 5'2", don't fret - there's also a place for you in the modeling world as well. Learning the ins and outs of the business is also important and I'll do my best to share a little insight here.

First and foremost I recommend taking classes. Yes, I realize many models have started great careers without training, but why take a chance that you will be lucky? Get some training, learn about the industry, get exposure to the movers and shakers in the industry.

Once enrolled in classes specific to your likes and dislikes, practice. If you are sincere about breaking into the industry, you will practice every moment you have the opportunity! It is great if you can get in front of a mirror to practice, but if you can't then practice where ever you happen to be. If you desire to be a runway model, here is a good tip: pretend that you are walking into the wind -- and do it with attitude.

Now learning to walk the runway properly is important, but it is also important to take good care of your skin. If you feel the need to purchase one or two skin products because they work really well for you, then do it. If you need instruction on good skin care, then get it. And, don't skimp on the products you purchase. Quality ingredients than do their job is what you want on your skin. Not washing your face properly will cause all kinds of blemishes and skin conditions -- it's a simple fact. Take care of your skin and be religious about it!

Once you have your body and your beauty under control, find a photographer that has experience in the modeling industry. If you've signed-up for classes with an industry insider, you will be able to obtain a referral to good photographer without any problem. Work with your instructors and the photographer and select the very best photos that represent you honestly. Remember, the purpose of these photos is to showcase YOU in a variety of poses. Your photographs will be your calling card.

After you have your photos, you are ready to begin making the rounds and going on interviews for agents, jobs, etc.
