Line of Pines
59
Sprung from the ground in the same hopeful year
As the industrial park now half razed
The remaining buildings waiting only
For the bulldozer and the wrecking ball
Reaches the last few sunsets of its life
So these trees too wait with needles browning
Though crowns still laden with pregnant pine cones
Surrounded by asphalt left with no room
For young to fall not too far from the tree
At their gnarled feet the needles a carpet
Fragrantly scented in which nothing grows
All once young now old, even the train
Wheezes down the warped and bumpy tracks
At six miles per hour or so with noplace much to go
These trees have seen this train go by a half
A million times by now. They're still here
And so am I.

I'm glad you're still here, too! We shall fight to remain as your trees do, steadfast and strong!
Thank you Tom! Your hub made me smile!
Thank you, Storyteller! I blame the photo's temporary absence on the elves. They usually put up my images for me as I sleep :0)
Yes, Candie, as Morpheus tells the multitudes in "The Matrix: Reloaded" ... "WE ARE STILL HERE!" Thank you!
I liked this poem very much!
Thank you, Juneaukid!
you can always seem to capture something and make it so real in the readers eyes...thank you!
Thank you so much, JJ! :0)
glad you are still here... enjoyed the poem
Thank you, Poetlorraine. I am glad you are here, too
Your words paint such a compelling picture! Good to read your poems again, Tom!
Thanks so much, Shalini. Great to see you :)
Brilliant, Tom. If only there were more of these trees as there are your elegant words about them. There seems to be a deficiency in greenery.
Thank you, AIDY. Perhaps as the industrial park falls and nothing is built to take its place, more greenery will indeed grow. Thanks again :)
Very nice of you to still be hanging around. I find truffles under my hemlocks, if the squirrels don't get them first. LOL Good poem and I could almost smell the pine, oh that's the wifes scented thing in the wall socket. sorry.

Tom, I like the poem. It is very visual.
Did you mean to include a photo because it did not come up for me.
But the poem stands alone. Good one.
