One of the most important aspects of search engine optimization today has become one way and deep linking.  These aspects are a strong indicator to search engines how popular and how well respected your site is.  The more respected your links are, the greater your SERP's (search engine results position) and the greater your Page Rank.  In order to develop this, you need to create your own natural link building program and implement it.

The key to gaining better rankings lies within deep linking.  Deep linking helps search engines to really help those who are searching for something really key in on what they're looking for.  The reason for this is that a deep link points to a specific article or part of your website.  Most amateurs today when posting their URL will just put the home page and that can hurt your SERP's. 

Here's why: Say you have a site which is a baseball statistics site and you have a page with every known statistic about Willie Mays' rookie year, from his On Base Percentage all the way down to his fielding percentage.  However, you only have links pointing at your homepage.  Now your competitor also has a page in his site with Willie Mays' rookie year statistics but not as complete as yours.  However, he has a bunch of back links pointing to that exact page.  If I search for Willie Mays' rookie year statistics, I will probably find your competitors site before I find yours.

How to start a link building program

• Set up Google Alerts:  Use Google alerts and set your notifications to blogs sent to your email for your specified keywords.  The reason you want to select blogs is because most blogs give you the ability to comment.  In the comments, you're asked for your URL, which will create a back link.  But make sure you deep link!
• Network with your top competitors:  I know this may sound strange, but you guys can help each other.  Communicate with your competitors (those who may have a higher ranking then you) and ask them if they'd like for you to be a guest on their blog.  You'll write an article on their blog for them, giving them content, and in exchange, you'll get to link to your site.
• Article submitting:  Write a bunch of articles, at least 10, and submit it to sites like eZineArticles.com and GoArticles.  Make sure your articles are targeted towards your keywords, and make sure to keenly read the eZine Articles guidelines to help you out!  These sites are constantly crawled by Google and will help you to be quickly indexed and ranked.
  
• Use Twitter/Facebook:  You've got to keep up with the times.  Twitter and Facebook are the new methods of link building.  With Twitter, every time you write an article on your site, let your followers know by linking to that specific article.  Search engines are constantly crawling Twitter and this will only help to give you link roid's as I like to call link strength.  As far as Facebook goes, what I like to do is search for groups related to my main keywords of my site.  A lot of these groups allow you to post links related to the main theme of the group.  Post your link and guess what, you've just got a back link from a PR 9 site.
• Social Bookmarking:  I leave this one last because judging from the talk around the internet, it has gotten a lot less weight in terms of effective SEO methods.  My theory is, most people who look for links on social bookmarking sites are just there for browsing, not for engaging.  Think about it, if you're looking for specific information which you may make a purchase based off of, are you going to go to a social bookmarking site to find that information?  No, you're going to hit the search engines!  But still, it can help you get a higher Page Rank and may help in SERP's.

Now make sure you don't flood the internet with your links in one day and then slack off for the next couple days.  Search engines will recognize that as a form of spam, not natural SEO.  I like to comment on 2-3 blogs a day, submit an article once a week, and tweet and facebook as needed.  If you're interested in more information towards building a profitable site, I've laid out a whole Quick Cash School Success Steps System for free on my site!
